Summary: Fusebox 4 Is Not Overlooked
Review: For those looking for a Fusebox 4 book that is similar to "Fusebox: Developing ColdFusion Applications", you can get "Fusebox 4 & FLiP: Master-Class ColdFusion Applications", by Jeff Peters, at www.protonarts.com

Summary: THIS IS FUSEBOX 3 !!!
Review: Fusebox is on version 4 as of 8/2004. This book is for Fusebox 3 ONLY!

Get a Fusebox 4 book if you are starting from scratch with FB4 as 3 and 4 are VERY different.

I will let others discuss the quality of this book - it is mostly a moot point for someone wanting the full benefits of FB.

Summary: Agree with the "too-Preachy" conclusion
Review: I agree with some of the other comments I've read on here and from co-workers -- the book covers the basics well but is too "preachy" when it comes to the "FLiP" development cycle. We have our own development process in-house and I really just wanted a solid reference book for FuseBox 3 in which I could quickly look up what I wanted.

Summary: A good guide for Fusebox 3
Review: I bought this Fusebox book a while ago and really found it useful for explaining the Fusebox framework and putting it to use. The examples are straightforward and the narrative is to the point.

I'm in the process of moving to Fusebox 4 and after having struggled through "Discovering Fusebox 4", I wish this book (covering FB3) would be updated.

Summary: an interesting book
Review: I enjoyed reading the book. There were a few good tips that I think I will be able to use. Some parts of the book seemed like they were "lecturing" me, though. It made me a little uncomfortable.

I prefer to see a smaller book that deals only with coding and leaves out what the authors called "FLIP". The coding is something that really can be useful if everyone is doing the same thing whereas the FLIP stuff was just good ideas and suggestions. We have our own processes for this in-house.

Since there are only a few Fusebox books, I would recommend this one to have for reference and would also want to have the other new one.

Summary: finally
Review: I had to give this book 5 stars simply because I feel it's currently the best fusebox book available (not because it's perfect)

With the popularity of fusebox growing it seems as though there's been a lack of solid resources (especially before these latest two books)... most of what's out there are a bunch of [weak] beginner powerpoint presentations, or just tiny bits of information so spread out that it's hard to learn much anything from them, or you have to spend an incredible amount of time in the fusebox topica forums. If you're wanting to learn fusebox3 then purchase this book rather then wasting time on internet resources. There's also the fusebox book published hal helms that seems to be more of a reference book. As a beginner, it could be hard to understand anything from that reference book...and as an expert, the book probably won't show you anything new.

The only two complaints I have about this book is
1:their complicated method of showing how to dynamically move javascripting from fuses to the head portion of the layout template (and never mentioning the much easier method of cf_htmlhead).
2: their insisted use of putting form fuseaction in a hidden fuseaction form field when the same is accomplished from putting it in the form action link as well as it being less coding and easier to follow

But the main reason I bought this book was because of the lengthy discussion on Flip. As I mentioned above with fusebox coding resources on the web, the same goes with flip... you have to combine bit and pieces of flip info from a ton of different resources just to get a decent idea of what's going on... thumbs up for wrapping everything about fusebox and flip into one source!

Summary: Solid writing, difficult concept
Review: I have been thinking about jumping the Fusebox wagon for years now and must say I am thankful for this book. The authors make a good case for Fusebox 3, and show the way forward.

My biggest gripe with this book, however, is that when I first sat down (after the first full read-through...) to start building a FB app I had problems getting started. I tried to locate the starting points in the book - but this is really no roadmap to Fusebox. You'll still have to do a lot of figuring out yourself. But then again, Fusebox is covered in great detail on the web and the authors are part of the core of that community - and the book _does_ cover lots of good tools you can get for free which _will_ help you along.

Fusebox is a Very Good Thing for ColdFusion, and I would have given this book 5 stars if it had provided perhaps at least one brief summary, a step-by-step, perhaps, on how to start your first Fusebox app.

It's a great book, though. If you're ready to dive into Fusebox 3, this will save you time compared to learning everything from the web.

Summary: Excellent Fusebox Resource
Review: I think this is an excellent book that is a MUST buy for anyone who wants to understand what Fusebox and the Fusebox Lifecycle Process (FLiP) is all about.

It's a good introduction to Fusebox for newbies but it should also help intermediate level programmers who just want to see how someone who knows how to do Fusebox right does it.

I got my copy the other day and was very pleased to see that the complete code from the example site in the book is available to download. All the code is properly fusedoc'd and the package comes with a mind map, wireframe, prototype, database and custom tags. If you're at all interested in Fusebox this is an awesome resource. For Fusebox newbies the code itself is worth the price of the book and more.

Kudos to Jeff and Nat, great work!

Summary: Good but preachy
Review: I thought the book did a very good job explaining FuseBox, but it did get preachy sometimes. There was also too much "story telling" for me.

I thought Discovering FuseBox by Helms was better because I like books that give me information without wasting my time.
