Rating: Summary: LOL Review: B4 I write my review, I want to contest what Mr Jeff Nyman wrote for his EDITORIAL. Mr Nyman is right about the fact that yes, for a web designer OCCUPATIONWISE, one does need to understand HTML, JavaSCript, DHTML and the whole shebang(underlying logic), and not just be able to use a WYSIWYG authoring tool such as DW He should, however, consider that not everyone is using this book to pursue a career in web design. it seems as he's rather professional concerning web design. Then bePROFESSIONAL when stating a review; be objective. If you're that good Mr Nyman, YOU write a book. Don't complain and mislead others and make novices to DW andthis field worry. Youreditorial is way too SUBJECTIVE and it seems to me that you didn't get this book to learn from it, but rather to criticize it and give a reason to brag about your skills. If u have more efficient or better ways of doing something, create an EXTENSION and share with others. This book is better than reading nothing. There's goods and bads to everything(like sugarless mints do not give you cavities, but they have a laxative effect when consumed in large amounts), it's a given. But you have to isolate that fact when stating your opinion. This is a fine book for a INTERMEDIATE DW USER(ones that got everything down, familiar where a function exists and how certain tasks are achieved) to expand his skills. But don't depend on this book, it's rather a "bells and whistles" type of book. If you need a definitive intermediate-advanced book, get INSIDE DREAMWEAVER 4. It's the best reference book out in the market(yes, i've checked out many books).
Rating: Summary: A Must Have Review: This book is excellent. Quality in appearance and quality in content. The disc has a number of very useful extensions that I now use on a regular basis. It is not a beginning tutorial on Dreamweaver (there are other books for that). Instead, it is more of a working professional's guide to creating dynamic sites with Dreamweaver. Be aware that the authors use "layers" as their primary strategy for page layout (they use html tables within those layers, but not for overall page layout). Okay, I am no expert on browser compatibility but I thought this would create problems for older browsers - even 4.0 browsers. However, the authors cite specific browser versions that have been tested for each project in the book and that usually included the 4.0+ browsers. Why have I been struggling with deeply nested html tables for so long when I could have used layers? Buy this book.
Rating: Summary: It's not THAT great! Review: I consider my self an intermediate web designer and I am having some trouble with this book. First of all the text and images are too small and I have good eye sight. After following along with the projects I'm not really learning much with all the pre- designed objects and designs. I feel like a robot following the books orders. I can't picture myself doing much of this stuff on my own. So far I don't know how customizable some of this stuff is. The finished products are awesome and I would like to use some of these ideas on my site but acheiving that will probably take more than this book.
Rating: Summary: Excellent for an advanced level... Review: ...easy to read and to follow, but the reader has to be in an advanced level; otherwise, it's clueless for the beginner.
Rating: Summary: Excellent DHTML book! Review: Highly recommended for anyone who wants to learn DHTML. Thanks Al Sparber.
Rating: Summary: Best computer book I've ever purchased Review: I've bought many books on computer software, most of which end up on the shelf and opened only once or twice. Not this book! It's beginning to look used and abused. I love it! As a Dreamweaver novice I was looking for a book that would teach me a bit about some of the more advanced aspects of Dreamweaver - css styles, objects, behaviors, etc. Everytime I finish a lesson, even if I never plan on using that lesson's subject for my web pages, I learn SOOOOO much. This is exactly the book I needed to get to that next level in Dreamweaver. If Sparber publishes a "Dreamweaver Magic II" book or one for Dreamweaver 5 (when it comes out), I'll be first in line.
Rating: Summary: Awesome!!!!! Review: Look no further if you are looking for a book that can turn your web site into magic. This book is unbelievable. It is so basic and precise that I think a beginner user of Dreamweaver will still be able to master the tricks inside the book. 10 thumbs up for this incredible book!!!
Rating: Summary: Magic is the right word! Review: Dreamweaver 4 Magic is the book for the intermediate to advanced user of Dreamweaver (and Fireworks) who wants to take their design skills to the next level! Chock full of tips, techniques, extensions, and more, DW4 Magic will teach you how to take the skills you've already developed and expand them in ways that you never knew were possible. Written by many of the world's leading experts on Dreamweaver, the authors of this book are not only proficient in the use of the software, but also in explaining the advanced techniques they've mastered in a thoughtful and well-organized manner. What's more, they are also some of the most dedicated "evangelists" for the web design products from Macromedia anywhere, as you'll often find many of them in the Dreamweaver news group explaining techniques, and working with users of the software. On top of all that, the layout is gorgeous, the photography is stunning, and the CD has enough Dreamweaver extensions and resources to make the book well worth the money all by itself! Highly recommended!
Rating: Summary: A Worthy Read Review: This is the most practical Dreamweaver book I've read (and I've read a few!). For once, someone assumes I know how to open a palette and save a file and moves on the tasty stuff, like dhtml that works in all browsers and some nifty CSS tricks. I really hope these folks do some more books. Buying this book was an investment that has already paid off for me as I've used stuff from the book to sell jobs to new clients. Cheers!
Rating: Summary: Cutting Edge- And Useful Too! Review: As a relatively new Dreamweaver user, I was a little afraid that by buying this book I'd be in a little over my head. Well, I did have to consult the Macromedia manual a few times, but this book taught me to do some tricks I never thought were possible. The most useful feature for me was the "Finished Project" folders from the CD. I could go through the tutorials and if I got hung up, all I need to do was to open the finished page in Dreamweaver to see how it should be done. This book has enabled me to make very cool dhtml menus and interfaces I could only dream about a few weeks ago. I guess that's why they call the program "DREAMweaver" and the book "MAGIC"! And I guess what really tops it off was that the author has a web site with some great dreamweaver stuff and a special section for the book (they list all the typos or updates and have some extra downloads). They also have a very good newsgroup, too. Thumbs up on this one!
