Rating: Summary: Great Source for Exchange features and setup. Review: I have used this book often as a reference. It has great step by step instructions on setting up windows 2k and exchange 2k. It is written well and provides answers to many of the questions I have that come up as I go through the book. As a programmer learning networking and exchange I would recommend this book with 4 thumbs up!
Rating: Summary: Not a good choice Review: I think Mastering Windows 2000 Server is one of the best Win2K books on the market. I was expecting Mastering Exchange Server 2000 to be much the same. This book quite simply frustrates me. I keep it on the shelf and refer to it sometimes and then remember how bad it is. The problem with this book is that it covers the spectrum of Exchange 2000 with no detail about anything you might encounter if you actually run Exchange 2000. If you want a book that describes what every menu in Exchange looks like then this is the book for you. I have given this book a fair shake but its definetly 2 thumbs down.

Rating: Summary: Great "starter" book for new Exchange admins Review: I was given responsibility of my company's Exchange infrastructure during our migration from Exchange 5.5. This book helped me to learn the basics of installation and configuration. A knowledge of Active Directory is helpful (but this is not an AD book) and the book does not go in to a lot of depth on many topics such as troubleshooting. The book is easy to read and the writer's style is easy to follow, though he does point out the obvious frequently, but that is okay because this is a basics book. I found it a great starting point for learning Exchange 2000; the Exchange 2000 Server 24seven book is a great place to pick up where this book leaves off.

Rating: Summary: 2 Stars for the effort Review: I wish I could share the enthusiasm of those who read the book before me - unfortunately I can't. The author looses his train of thought quite a bit. Believe me it is aggravating when you try to figure out whether he meant this or that or maybe he just wanted you to do it. In my opinion this book doesn't clearly state the steps involved - therefore I can not recommend it, it's simply not a good technical reference material. When it comes to technical books - they are either good or bad, there is nothing in between. It is just like with E2K - it either works and you know how to fix it or it doesn't work and you are definitely forced buy a book other that this one.
Rating: Summary: Rename it to Intro to Exchange 2000 Review: If you have never used Exchange 2000 you may want to buy this book. The author scratches the surface of some very nice topics and then walks away from them. The first 400 pages are filler explaining Windows 2000 and very basic AD concepts.Very disappointing book unless you are an Exchange newbie, and even then it probably wouldn't help as the author just scratches the surface of a topic.
Rating: Summary: Straight from a beginner Review: Take it straight from a beginner: this is the perfect book for you. Oddly enough (for computer books) all of the sample screens are totally accurate as you go through the actual installs of Windows 2000 Advanced Server and Exchange 2000 Enterprise. Mr. Gerber explains each small detail: Windows basic installation, then promoting your installation to a domain controller by adding ADSI, then how Exchange 2000 uses ADSI and how to install and use the MMC builder. I'm now at the point where we've gone on and installed Office 2000, made the client settings, and are getting ready to test for an Outlook client. I'm telling you, from a guy who came here knowing zip, this book was perfect for me. Thank you.
Rating: Summary: netbui444 is wrong Review: That's why I got this book, it explained EXACTLY what to do. Try setting a Recipient Policy ya big dummy.
Rating: Summary: 'Tree Killer' Lost his mind, great book Review: This book is a great benefit from beginner to advanced. The ease of use and understanding of context was great. It's also a nice reference tool.
