Rating: Summary: The dummy books are the "cliff notes" of computing. Review: -----DOS for dummies is the most helpful computer guide I have ever laid my brown eyes apon. It has everything from
turning on the computer to editing you configuration files.
It has several jokes about PC's and even some cartoons!
Whether you just got your computer yesterday or you MAKE computers this book is helpful. In the front it has some cheat sheets and quick refrence guides that are really helpful. I have had this book for 2 years now and still find myself reading it. -----So even if you don't plan on spending time in DOS (which you always end up doing anyways) GET THIS BOOK!!!!

Rating: Summary: Talks too much about hardware. Review: Good book to learn few things about DOS itself. Very easy to understand. Way too much stuff about hardware.
Rating: Summary: This is a great refrence book Review: I make my living providing technical support for PC users, and this book has made my life a much more plesant experince. I have given many copies of this book to freinds who are looking for a good starting point to working with their computers.
Rating: Summary: Great DOS Reference Review: I thought it is aright book and a good reference book. The reason why I gave a low rating because in some parts it lost me. I didn't understand a bit in those parts which lost me. It had a tiny bit of humour and got boring at most times. There is also good think about and a bad thing about the book. I will tell the good thing, it tells you how to connect printers, modems and other hardware. If you are a beginner who knows ZIP about installing hardware and software this is the book. But on the other hand I knew how to install hardware and software so it got boring. There should be two types of book, the book which is released now and a new book only about DOS nothing else.

Rating: Summary: This book explained about DOS, and Campared it with Windows Review: I thought that the book was an excellent book. It easily told you what DOS is doing, and why it is not as good as MS Windows. The book also gave the difference between the different DOSes there are. There is not much to say about this book , only that it is a great book. I have to say, DOS is very annyoing and slow, and the book really pushed that. That is why I am giving this book a 4
Rating: Summary: Very Good Book, but pertains more toward the Prehistoric Age Review: like I said, good book, but a bit outdated. The author talks about 50 MByte disk drives as being huge and about 5 inch floppy disks. This is like reading Aristotle's physics instead of Newton's. If you use DOS it will help you of course, but ignore most of the talk about hardware. Covers DOS commands very well. Contains interesting trivia about computers too (the life span of a hard drive is about 4 years, unless this is outdated too). To conclude, if you use DOS, it will suite you. Even better seem to be the DOS reference book for Dummies.
Rating: Summary: This is really " Computers for Dummies" in disguise. Review: The covers is "DOS for Dummies; however on further inspection you will find it also describes how indirect hardware, modems, dealing with diskettes, dealing with databases, using msbackup of and the differences between the different DOS's.
Rating: Summary: Good for beginners... Review: This book has little or no real content. It looks good on the surface but there is nothing underneath. In the interest of system safety the author has left out so much information it leaves the book essentially useless. Worse, it gives the impression that some of the things you may need to do can't be done. This book may be okay for teaching children a limited use of dos but anyone that has any judgement at all needs more information.
