Summary: Well written, with in-depth coverage
Review: This book is a welcome reference to Microsoft's latest OS, with thorough coverage and a comprehensive index. Cowart/Knittle's book has deep discussions about networking, VPN, web folders and web-based printing, security, MMC, a chapter on multi-booting, another on Windows Scripting Host, and other meaty topics that I wanted to understand better. Well done, and an entertaining read at times, too. I recommend this book if you want to know what Windows 2000 is about, how to use it, and how to administer it.

Summary: Deep and helpful
Review: This book really helped me trough the transition and implementation of this new Windows on my business, and my costumer's machines.

Very comprehensible, and helpful.

Summary: not for the professional
Review: This book while well written contains too much stuff that Windows2000 Professional shares with WindowsNT. It is not a good reference book. Perhaps it would be better off positioned as an introductory text because it has too much fluff.

Summary: Outstanding book - Highly Recommended
Review: This is a very well written book that covers comprehensively and in depth all the important features of Windows 2000 Professsional and is ideally suited for technical professionals who use the OS. I am a developer of business applications on Windows 2000 platform, so it is essential for me to have an intimate knowledge of the OS. I studied this book cover to cover and I heartily and unhesitatingly recommend this book. This book can be used both as a study guide as well as a reference.

Summary: Best win2K book out there
Review: Using Windows 2000 is the only Win2K book on the market that provides comprehensive coverage of every level of Windows operation; the book is as comfortable in the lap of the task-driven Win98 emigrant as it is on the reference shelf of the experienced network administrator. And unlike much of its competition, this is not just an NT 4 book with an extra appendix. Congrats to Que publishing for delivering this at half the cost of Microsoft's own bloated effort!

Summary: A first class guide
Review: While my copy of the MS Windows 2000 Professional Resource Kit sits on my bookshelf, Que's Windows 2000 Professional Special Edition sits right beside my computer - because it's so much easier to find the answers I need in it.

Cowart and Knittel write clearly and succinctly and they use lots of graphics and other visual aids to explain each topic. Most chapters include both troubleshooting and tips sections.

Finding where to look in this massive book is so easy. First, the single page "Contents at a Glance" focuses your search on the right chapter. Then the detailed contents of each chapter are outlined in the following 18 pages - so you can literally leap to the right page.

Someday I'll probably be glad I've got the MS W2K Pro Resource Kit, but for now Que's book is where I look first.

Summary: Excellent reference
Review: Your book is excellent: I keep it beside me and use it almost daily. Many thanks.
