Rating: Summary: The best book on COM available Review: Tough reading but by far and away the best and most complete COM guide available.
Rating: Summary: An easy book for a complicated subject Review: This book is the only GOOD expination of COM that I have ever read. It still took me a few months to understand COM well, but without this book I'm sure it would have taken much longer. It covers everything, from the basics to the ghastly details of COM. And it does a damn good job of it.
Rating: Summary: Fundamental Text book for COM programmers. Review: This book is one of the fundamental book for COM programming
Rating: Summary: The first chapter worth the price of the book Review: I spend a few months programming COM using ATL and MFC and still didn't fully understand why we want it. This book tells me why in 30 minutes. Best COM book available.
Rating: Summary: This is a must have for COM developers Review: I met Don Box (the author) at the Microsoft Global Summit in New Orleans in 1998 and was impressed. It was interesting to see Microsoft personnel listening and learning from an outsider. If anyone has an opportunity to hear him in person, I would take advantage. I recommend all of his published books and rate them five stars.
Rating: Summary: Yes! Definitely the best book on COM I read. Review: In a world full of poorly written books about COM this book is really something else. In just a few hundred pages (about 400) Don Box manages to cover all basic aspects of COM technology. The book doesn't cover any frameworks for COM development (like ATL or MFC), instead is written using straight C++ making it easy to understand what is really going on. The book is clear, concise and to the point. I found it easy to read, and I really enjoyed it. WELL DONE Don!!
Rating: Summary: Excellent book for studying COM Review: This book has all the necessary things explained from the root
Rating: Summary: Intellectual Self-Indulgence Review: This book starts out by saying that it would cover COM at its most basic, no class libraries or macros to get in your way. That sounded like an absolutely wonderful idea. But what happened was that instead of explaining how the real world ATL COM macros worked, Don Box spent the entire book explaining how his own personal macros worked. That was not what I signed up for. Did I learn something? Yes, but I sure had to wade through a lot of Don Box's macros to see how COM worked.
Rating: Summary: Even Microsoft can't Explain COM like this,But DonBox did it Review: Really this book is for those who want to explore from begining to advanced. In most of the books the author will start with com technical details, but DonBox starts with why com?really its helpful to understand. Also Apartment(COM Threading Model) concept is explained very well, which is not available with any other books in the market. If anyone is not reading this book really they are missing something.
Rating: Summary: COM Explained in Detail Review: This book explains COM in such detail that it is essential for anybody who wishes to consider themselves experts in this technology.
