Rating: Summary: Licensing and auto-update, finally! Review: This is one of the few books that I've seen that actually discusses licensing issues and auto-update. Blunden provides a meticulous explanation of the tradeoffs between local license checking and remote license management. Not only does he look at these ideas from an abstract level, he also wades into the gory details of implementation. Licensing is presented in a "real-world" backdrop, such that I could take some of the fundamentals with me and use them at work. Traditionally, licensing and auto-update have been, in-house, proprietary secrets. Blunden brings them into the spotlight to show you how they work. I haven't seen a book that really looked at these features in any depth before.
Rating: Summary: Systematic Coverage of Usage Review: What I really liked about this book was that there was an entire chapter devoted to using the message server. Most books just throw the source code at you and wish you good luck (i.e. The MINIX Book). This book takes the time and effort to systematically walk you through the steps of building, configuration, and deployment. Many of the tools have GUI front-ends, which also makes life easier.
