Rating: Summary: workable Review: Although I first experienced some problems with the CD contained in this book, on obtaining an exchange copy everything turned out fine. As it happens the CD is one of the best features of this self train publication. With no disrespect intended to the author, I found his monotone voice and slow paced tutorials almost put me to sleep as I worked through the chapters. I might add, publications with CD's are notorious for the errors they contain driving readers mad with frustration. However, "Creative Web Animation", in my experience and others who I know have used it, has no such flaws. Its a good workmanlike offering for beginners and served its purpose for me.
Rating: Summary: Excellent Starter Material Review: I found the book to be an easy read. There were many activities that reinforced the concepts introduced by the movie files. It followed a very logical sequence of instruction and made a noticable difference in my ability to navigate through the flash program and use flash functions.I have previously taught secondary and post secondary classes on visual basic and would not hesitate to use this as a text for a Flash class.
Rating: Summary: It's more like a textbook Review: I have just finished reading this book cover-to-cover. It introduces all Flash 5 topics in an organized way- which is exactly what I wanted. But it won't tell you how to be a Flash 5 pro (that's up to you). Now I find that it is a handy reference as I work on projects.
Rating: Summary: If you only buy one more book THEN buy this one!!!! Review: I have read Flash 5 Creative Web Animation book and it is excellent. I am in my 3rd year at University and now begrudge paying money (stopped buying books after my second year). I had spent in my first and second year, about GBP 250 on books in releation to my course work. But 9.8/10 are [bad], in my opinion, and the info is available on the Internet any way. This book has restored my faith in the book industry. Although there is a lot of Flash stuff out there nothing compares to this book.. What makes it is the CD-ROM it is brilliant. I look forward to the next. If you want to get ahead in Flash get this book.
Rating: Summary: If you dont know Flash... You will Review: I read the first edition, fell in love and got my first contract. This book is another grand slam! I recommend it to all my students. It is not for advanced Flashers. It is the best choice for beginners and is a great reference book. The CD-ROM only is worth every stars. I challenge every beginners to pick up this title and tell me they couldn't create and troubleshoot a Flash site! This book will leave you thirsty for more. You will then be frustrated to realize that there isn't yet a great advanced Flash5 book out there that will match and follow up the quality of this book. If you dont know Flash... buy this one!
Rating: Summary: great for begginers to advanced Review: I would just like to set the record straight. All of the people who rated this book 1 star must have been hoping a magician would have popped out of the book, tapped them on the head with a magic wand, and wallah.... they are now flash jedi masters. This book is well written and easy to understand. The cd-rom is unbelievalble. It uses quicktime videos that walk you through the lessons. Almost as good as having the author sitting right there in front of you explaining the lesson. The book starts with the basics and works through advanced action scripting. As far as I'm concerned, it is the desk reference for people wanting to learn flash. Pick up a copy and open up a world of endless possiblities in interactive website design.
Rating: Summary: Very good, but a lot of annoying spelling mistakes !!! Review: Okay. I agree with all of the above rewiews. This is a great book. BUT... maybe i'm the only one who finds it annoying, but damn !!! They should have triple checked the spelling !!! Some of the "shortcut-keys" they mentions is wrong. It's like they forgot to change the default-key!!! And a few places they have a menu-link that's not in the program. Try findign "Window/Arrange all" in "SymbolEditMode > Edit in new Window". I sure can't !! Small errors that's really annoying !!!
Rating: Summary: It's more like a textbook Review: The cover may look nice but inside it's another story. You will only learn what each tool can do and nothing else, if that's what you want buy the book else....leave it there. You won't learn how to create even a nice (flash)movie or any nice effects... You can find all the stuff they have written, on the net for free. For me it's the worst book I have ever bought.
Rating: Summary: VERY complete! Review: This book is even better than the previous version, and I loved the previous version. I am amazed at the advancement I've made when using Flash 5 since getting this book. ActionScript coverage is easy to understand a very thorough. The video tutorials on the CD are excellent. I HIGHLY recommend this book.
