Rating: Summary: I just feel its not for beginner.. Review: no any basic info about router, too many technical terms which never explained... but if u are advanced user, i believe this book is a good reference for u.
Rating: Summary: Killer handbook - Can't go wrong with this one! Review: Quick, concise, and nothing you don't need -- highly recommended for any network administrator/engineer left with the responsibility of having to maintain and operate Cisco routers! Even has a number of customizable troubleshooting scipts that would normally require another book! The WAN side was an excellent chapter (learned more from it than when I was studying for my CCNA using usual study guides)... Overall, A++! Best investment you can make if you're anyway involved in I.T.! (Heard the 2nd edition is already available -- will definitely get that too!)
Rating: Summary: Great Work! Good For Novice And Experienced Users Review: The author did a great job with this one. This 270-page book packs more info that plenty of "study guide" twice its size. An excellent balance of text and clear illustrations. Good information on everything from the OSI model to troubleshooting, and it includes a case study that really helps drive concepts home. An excellent addition to any Cisco bookshelf!

Rating: Summary: Much ado about nothing Review: This book covers a lot of protocols and various subjects -- to many to do a decent job on any one of them. It just scratches the surface. Actually I bought this bought for the so-called troubleshooting section. Save your money. The troubleshooting section involves an introduction to the ping command and the trace command, and how to look for a break in the wiring. Also, when there are router configurations listed, there is no explaination of why particular commands were used.

Rating: Summary: What's new in this edition Review: This second edition of Cisco Router Configuration and Troubleshooting includes several enhancements from the first edition. The Cisco product line that is discussed has been expanded to include newer high-end routers and access devices. I discuss some of the newer IOS features that were added in IOS 12.0 as well as introduce IP Multicast. The sections on OSPF and BGP have been expanded also. New additions to this revision include VPNs, DSL and VLANs. This book has something for everyone.
Rating: Summary: Why I wrote this book. Review: When I was approached to write this book I was hesitant. I thought to myself, "Who am I to tell others how they should do things?". In the end I came to the conclusion that sharing my experiences and viewpoints may in fact be beneficial to some. So, I decided to accept. This book is a good starting point for anyone starting in the computer networking field, especially to those that have to monitor and maintain computer networks. At the very least it will shed some light on why certain aspects of Cisco routers are the way they are. For the experienced Network Operator, you may find ideas on ways to use Cisco routers that may not have thought of before.
Rating: Summary: Great examples. Well worth the price! Review: With the price of Cisco books, it's amazing I was able to find one this complete for less than $30! I am a CCNA who is still fairly new to Cisco products, but not routing. I now work with Cisco products every day and I also have a home lab for the CCNP/CCIE - so this book is worth it's weight in GOLD to me. The thing that impressed me the most is that it goes beyond simple Cisco 800/1600/2500 series router configuration examples and uses many of the high end router IOS commands - so no matter what you are configuring, whether it's a 2501 or a 7000; ISDN, FDDI, Ehternet, or Token Ring; SNMP,TFTP; RIP, BGP, or OSPF; or any of the other major Cisco "must know" items then you need this book. As a CCNP/CCIE candidate AND a Network Administrator I really have an appreciation for the "Case Study" in the book. It *really* shows you what to expect in the real world environment of WANs. BTW, it makes a great CCIE Lab Scenario too! Overall, I feel my money was very well spent. It has already paid for itself. It will be on my desk for a long, long time.
