Rating: Summary: Excellent IIS book Review: A must for everyone who is serious about IIS. I have read it from cover to cover. Stanek is simply the best technical writer about windows. You get the impression that he really knows what he is talking about and isn't afraid to share. This book will show you every feature that you need to know.
Rating: Summary: A great book for IIS Review: Another excellent pocket consultant from William Stanek. This a wonderful resource especially for people like me, making the transition from Apache. I'm making the change after 7 years of using Apache, and this book will stay close at hand. Mr. Stanek has once again written a valuable book that is easy to use and understand. Thank you!
Rating: Summary: Not enough. Review: I bought this book together with the IIS 5.0 Beginner's Guide from Osborne McGraw-Hill. Since I have both, I can honestly say that I rarely pick this one up to use it. I'm one of those people that buy up all the books I can on a subject when I have a job to do. While this book is well-written, it seems to be little more than the help features built into IIS 5.0.
Rating: Summary: The best IIS reference available Review: I don't what the reviewers from Spain or Egypt are referring to. This is the best IIS reference I've found and I bought 3 others before this one answered my questions. By far the best for IIS admins. Definitely 5 stars. The content is extremely thorough and accurate, the writing style intuitive, and Stanek's obviously an expert in the Enterprise. Check his other books, I think you'll find he is the best of the best when it comes to authoring technical material. William, thanks for another great one!
Rating: Summary: THE most helpful IIS 5 book I found Review: I first started reading this book several months ago, and it's clearly a great book. I've learned so much from it. This book, like Stanek's others, is really worth every penny it costs. I highly recommend this book! If you are using WS 2003 check out the IIS 6 book though.
Rating: Summary: Best IIS book I've found Review: I got a lot of value out of this book. It is the best IIS book I've found bar none. The book has lots of useful information. I think every Windows or Web admin should buy this. There's lots of advice that has saved me time and again. Great book!
Rating: Summary: Bad quality Review: I have nothing to add to the other posts here, regarding its content. I'm just learning IIS and this is more or less my starting point -- actually the "readers' reviews" here att amazon.com made me start out with this one. It hasn't disapointed me so far. Stanek is a skilled writer. However, this book -- like the others in this series (I've read and used the Pocket Consultant for Windows 2000 and Windows XP too) -- has bad bindings. I'm sitting here at my lab environment, haven't worked my way through to one fourth of the book yet, but already it is falling apart on me. This is no good for a book which is advertised as a handy little pocket to use in your daily work. I hope I'm not as temporarily as this one.
Rating: Summary: Good all around reference for IIS Review: I really like this book, it isn't a huge book, but the pertinent information is packed in a easy to carry around format. I have all of the Microsoft "Pocket Consultant" books, and think they are money well spent.
Rating: Summary: Great book on IIS Review: If you admin IIS and you don't have this book, you're missing out. Stanek writes near perfect computer manuals--easy enough for beginners but with plenty of info for computer professionals. I've bought several in the "Pocket Consultant" series and none disappointed me. As far as the covers of the book falling off, never happened to me. The covers are extra thick and stitched. I've abused, I mean used my book for nearly 2 years. Excellent!
Rating: Summary: Definitive IIS book in small package Review: It is a very complete look at Windows 2000 and IIS 5 administration. It features lots of detailed information as well as the step-by-step procedures that are absoltely necessary to being successful. I haven't found another IIS book that was as useful in day to day. I would have to say this should be part of every IIS admin's library. Some of the chapters are really worth the price of the book, especially when Stanek's expert advice gets you out of a jam. I had a lot of problems with FTP and SMTP before I got this book. I also used to have problems understanding IIS security. You should buy this one without a doubt.
