Summary: My Stars could be more valuable than average
Review: The book consists of 540 pages, excluding introduction and appendix. I have just read the chapter 1. It is wordy, fit for beginner. The section 2 for database is more in detail, but the section 3 for Object Oriented is weak. As most of the writers, the author is exhauted at the last chapters, the section for advanced readers. Anyway, $45 is affordable for the content. Do not count for advance features and OO in it.

Summary: Great for beginners, but not for anyone else.
Review: The reviews made this book sound easy to read and would explain things clearly. I found it choppy and completely disconnected. Only the newest of newbies will get useful information from this book. Anyone with any experience will find it an over simplified review. That is so discontinuous as to remove any chance of a unified learning experience. Look elsewhere for a good beginning book

Summary: Ready to throw my other VB books away and keep this book...
Review: There are few computer books that can really capture the interest of the reader as Murach's VB 6. The way that the author(s) take you by the hand and explains why your typing the code is easy to understand. There have been a few minor typos, but if you know a little about the VB interface you can get past them. Some reviews have stressed the need for downloadable source code, but this book stresses the need for the reader to type in the code.... This is one of the few books that I have owned that really does a good job building your knowledge on the subject. The source code that you type in throughout the chapters actually produces workable & useful applications (unlike a lot of other books that show only snippets of code with no explanation)! This book gives you the confidence to take on VB6! Another strong feature is that when they initially reference code or figures in the book it is strategically placed on the next page, so you don't have to turn the page to see what the author(s) are talking about. I look forward to buying other Murach publications!

Summary: The ONLY VB6 book you need to own...
Review: This book is utterly fantastic! Far and away the best VB6 book available today.

As a professional software developer, trainer, and adjunct college instructor, I own and have read many books on VB6...and none come close to teaching VB6 development concepts as well as this book does. Keep up the great work Mr. Murach!

My congratulations to the authors for a job well done.

Summary: Visual Basic Explorer, June 1999
Review: This book was a bit of a surprise considering I had never heard of this publisher. It didn't take long to discover that Murach's Visual Basic 6 is a great book to get you started with VB. You start out building your first program in chapter one and in the following chapters you will work with another dozen real world sample programs that cover all the material that an entry-level buisness programmer might be expected to know. Among other things, the book gives excellent coverage of database programming issues. I'm adding this one to my list of favorite beginner's books and think you'll like it too.

Rating: 5 stars
Summary: An excellent all-around book for beginners and professionals
Review: This book was written so that the beginner can understand what is going on within the VB programming language; while at the same time, managing to hold the attention of a seasoned professional. Murach's Visual Basic 6 is not like those other books which basically rewrite the VB help file. It is a step-by-step manual showing how to use VB6 (using program samples applicable to real-world situations) for the beginners and a reference guide to database programming using ADO for the more advanced programmers.

Rating: 5 stars
Summary: Excellent book for VB programmers at all levels
Review: This books is very well written, has plenty of illustrations, and is loaded with examples. In addition to covering the fundamentals of VB coding, this book does a fantastic job covering the essentials of database programming using ADO.

Summary: If you want to learn VB6 - buy this book!
Review: This is probably this best book I've come across for learning Visual Basic 6. The exercises really make you think (and sometimes frustrate you) but in the end, you learn what you need to. Also, when I contacted the company for help, I found them to be very friendly and helpful.

Rating: 5 stars
Summary: Not a book for unenthusiastic beginners
Review: This is the best book I have ever read on VB, but this is after I had already gone through two previous books. Although it has beginners info, it is covered very quickly and may not be the easiest thing for a beginner to grasp. Fundamentals such as declarations, and conditional statements generally take a bit more explanation in order for the student to get a firm grasp. On the other hand, should you be one who truly wants to learn and progress at the fastest rate possible, this book is incredible.
