Summary: Not very simple!
Review: Great Book for domains with child domains but for simple starters it is not what I thought it would be. Limited detail in the migration and even more limited in basic tasks. The book is good just not for starters. I recommend something else.

Summary: Frustrating!!!
Review: I am fairly new to Exchange and was encouraged to buy this book by it's title and reviews. I wish I had followed the advice of a few other frustrated readers here and not purchased this book. I'm not sure what to do with this book. It is unclear, poorly written and just laid out wrong. The book is a "beginners guide" right? Why does it start out with "Part 1: Migration and Coexistence?" How about an introduction to Exchange? You wont find that here. The first 3 chapters discuss upgrading to Exchange 2000 from 5.5 and coexistence with other mail servers. If I had experience with 5.5 and had issues with other mail servers I probably wouldn't need to purchase a book called "A Beginners Guide". So I skipped ahead to chapter 4: "Installing Exchange 2000 Server." This chapter was unclear and incomplete. The book is constantly referencing back to Exchange 5.5 and assumes that you are much more than a beginner with Exchange. I would appreciate this book if it was a little over my head but served as a good reference but it is not a good book for experienced Admins either, it's a mess. I'm annoyed with this book, it was a waist of money!

Don't buy this book if you are a beginner to Exchange!

Summary: Great starting block
Review: I did not know anything about exchange server and i tried to install it first up with no references, obviously encountering many problems. This book was a great help, after reading it i was successfully able to install and configure exchange with relative ease. It is as the title suggests, a beginners guide as it does not dive into to much detail that may be required for more complex administration.

Summary: Frustrating!!!
Review: I should have taken more note of Robin's review. This book is NOT for someone who knows little or nothing about Exchange Server despite what the introduction of the book states. It jumps right in to migration issues and follows up with other subjects including installing and other administrative issues. There was no overview of what Exchange Server does as would logically be the first thing a beginners book would include. Purchasing and reading this book has been a waste of time and money for me. Maybe after I find a book that can get me up to speed I'll go back to this book and benefit from it.

Summary: Bravo!
Review: I was relieved after I read this book. I had read a book called "Exchange 2000" by Gerber which I could not get to work properly and left me very frustrated.
I needed to understand Exchange server in a hurry to prepare for interviews. I had no prior knowledge of Exchange.
This book was beautifully written. A masterpiece! Simple to understand for a beginner. I would say its the best possible starting point as a beginner and by the time you're done you'll have a good solid understanding of just about everything in Exchange server.

Summary: Not a great beginners book
Review: It was a little hard to understand this book as a beginner.
The examples are not clear and I had a hard time figuring out on my own. The first section covers the migration from 5.5 to 2000 and as a beginner I thought that should be covered at the end.
This book should'nt be called a beginners guide but should be called migration for beginners.
Overall This book is better for those who know Exchange 5.5
and it would be more of a burden for an exchange beginner.

Summary: not to bad
Review: This book is extremely easy to read, and is good for day to day administration, however for a serious dose of what goes on behind the scenes with exchange you will want something a little deeper. However for the ease of reading and pretty complete coverage of the topic I give it a 4. It will teach you about %90 of what is needed to adminster exchange.
