Rating: Summary: THE BEST BOOK EVER WRITTEN!! Review: This is THE best book ever written about graphics, code optimization, and everything else that deals with programming. Michael, teaches you how to do the "impossible".There are numerous algorithms, tips & tricks, and techniques that teach you different aspects of programming. C/C++ knowledge is required in order to get the most out of this book. If you don't know ASM and C/C++ you should be looking for the "... for Dummies" series And yes, it's a good idea that you lift weights before you get this book 'cuz it's quite heavy ;) I give the book 10 starts out of the maximum 5!! ..-=ViKtOr=-..

Rating: Summary: TEN stars (**********) EXCELLENT!!! Review: This is THE book! Don't write code without it! Truly incredible! Excellent discussions on assembly language optimization along with the great graphics topics make this the BEST book you could buy yourself!!!
Rating: Summary: Outstanding reference Review: Though a lot of the book is old asm material, the rest of the book is filled with excellent information on 3d graphics including some pretty advanced concepts. A must-have reference for any person doing computer graphics.
Rating: Summary: good book, buy it and stuff Review: Well, first of all if you don't know assembler I recommend buying a book on assembler 'Mastering turbo assembler' by tom swan is a good one..half of this book isn't even on 3d graphics though, its on x86 optimization, but then again that's essential stuff to know if wanna make some fast a** code >8^D~ , when i first bought this book I didn't know assembler, but now that I do it seems really clear, Michael has a great way of explaining stuff, although technical sometimes, is very informative, if your paying attention and experimenting.. heh,.. Rating: Summary: comprehensive and thorough Review: Wow! A book that covers all of M. Abrash's writings on the topic of computer graphics is a MUST HAVE for anyone who wants to learn the details of writing fast graphics code. Unfortunately, since it *is* comprehensive, over half of the book covers topics which are obselete. Optimizations for 8088 to 486s and the minutia of coding EGA/VGA cards are well written but far from helpful in today's world of Windows video drivers and Pentium PCs. The rest of the book, however, covers the technology of Quake and optimizations for Pentiums. M. Abrash is a brilliant author who covers all of these topics well. This reader is pleased with the book.
