Summary: Make the most of router technology with this hands-on book!
Review: Make the most of the leading router technology with the in-depth manual you never got from Cisco! There is no better tool on the market for maximizing use of Cisco's TCP/IP routers than this hands-on manual. Packed with clear instructions and in-depth explanations, it provides the fundamentals the novice needs as well as the sophisticated analysis and design tools network pros demand. With the proliferation of TCP/IP networks (the internet, plus intranets and extranets) and Cisco's vast share of the router market, this toolkit is an essential for MIS directors, LAN managers and administrators, network engineers, and technical support staff. Cisco networking expert Chris Lewis explains the ins and outs of: setting up your first router; system implementation; protocol basics; performance troubleshooting; network management; security. This comprehensive guide also offers solutions to everyday problems inherent in network use (like recovery of lost passwords), plus an overview of Cisco products.

Summary: I was expecting more INTERNET oriented book
Review: Maybe the name was misleading, but surely this book was written for persons operating company intranets than for people connecting to internet or working at ISPs. Even the name of the book has TCP/IP on it, the text misspells TPC/IP. Also, several oversimplifications about the Internet made me upset.

Summary: Mediocre
Review: On the back cover, the book reads:

'Make the most of the leading router technology with the in-depth manual you never got from cisco!'

I hope you noticed the word 'in-depth' then I wonder why when I tried to get some IS-IS information, on page 120 all the writer has to say is said in a paragraph and the last line reads:

'Nothing more will be said of Integrated IS-IS, because I recommend that if you want to use a link state protocol, you use OSPF.'

HAAA need I say more about this book!

Chris, it is none of your damn business to tell the reader what to use or not. When you took the task of writing a book on cisco tcp/ip, then you had better covered IS-IS 'in-depth'. When I pick up a book to read about satanism, it does not neccessarily mean that I'm planning to adopt satanism. I might just be reading for the sake of getting to know what satanism is all about, right?

Summary: Great book, lousy Index
Review: On the text alone, I'd give it a 10, but the index is a serious fault. There are far too few entries. Many times I've looked for something and not found it there, yet when going to the table of contents and trying a likely section I found the answer in clear words.

Summary: Great book
Review: Perfect book for new and intermediate Cisco router admins. The best part of the book is that all the router configs are explained "line-by-line". The book does have quite a bit of intro material, but it is necessary. The chapters on routing protocols are great. Chapter on Wan technologies is great. Ip Unnumbered, many commands to debug and test your Frame Relay is all here.

Summary: Un eccellente guida-rapida alle configurazioni tipiche
Review: Spiegati passo passo le configurazioni "tipiche". Una guida che sicuramente integra la complessa documentazione Cisco.

Summary: Very helpful for a novice like myself.
Review: Step by step explainations are great.

Summary: The best book on TCP/IP and routers
Review: The book is direct and to the point. It doesn't float over subjects, and give you the "I don't know to much about this, so I'll tell you what you already know" deal. It gets into what you WANT to find out about. Also specifies the little things you may not know, EVEN if you consider yourself an EXPERT. Please don't buy any book just to pass a test ! BUY it if you want to LEARN and USE !! SAY NO TO PAPER CERTS.

Summary: Excellent Cisco guide
Review: This book covers Cisco routing architectures from a beginner to an intermediate level. Covers a lot of WAN technologies with network diagrams and also provides the corresponding sample IOS code with line-by-line explanation to get you started. An excellent book to have in your Cisco collection.
