Summary: A challenging book
Review: A good book, I am intrigued in how he uses PHP. I keep the book because it gives a good understanding of how to use PHP in a professional manner. Although it has a ton of typos and examples which need code to make them work. I made them work which expanded my knowledge of PHP and MySQL. I am half way through the book hopefully the typo's will get less.

Rating: 5 stars
Summary: Useful and to the point.
Review: Great book, well worth the read! I learned more about PHP in this book than I have with my entire PHP book collection (5 books total)!

Summary: Taking Your Skills To The Next Level
Review: I just finished reading this book, and all I have to say is wow!! I'd like to thank the author for writing such a great book. I've read other books on PHP and Mysql, and by far, this is the first one that I can say really covered all the bases, and didn't make me feel like I'm wasting my time. The author really shows his skill as he walks you through step-by-step examples. He doesn't just throw code together and call it a book, he really helps you to understand the reason behind the things he was teaching. Surprisingly enough he's able to add some humor in and share some of his personal experiences, which really made reading this book not only fun, and educational but a really good read. This book has earned all the positive reviews it's received and I'm already pre-ordering his new book(...). I hope this review helps you out, as much as the book has helped me.

Summary: A great book!
Review: I ordered this book about a weeek ago. I have been doing nothing but reading it since. It is a great book and has way more then I expected. Eric Rosebrock wrote a great book that covers a vast area and owns and operate phpfreaks.com for all the code and examples you cna ask for!

Summary: Don't look here for "Web Services"!
Review: The title of this book is unfortunately misleading. If you believe, as I do, that "Web Services" has something to do with SOAP (or more specifically, nuSOAP or other PHP-specific library) then prepare to be disappointed if you buy this book!

The closest thing you will find is a short discussion of the Amazon API and Google translation services, a slim 24 page chapter out of the entire 400+ page book. These are both already documented online.
The rest is an intermediate-level discussion of common PHP applications, which are addressed as well (if not better) in a number of other books...

Not recommended.

Summary: The Worst PHP Book Ever! The Author Knows Nothing!
Review: This guy Rosebrock has no clue what coding is all about. I read this book twice over to give him the benefit of the doubt and all I can say is I wish I hadn't. Why? Well first off Rosebrock is condescending to the reader, a real know-it-all that only manages to make you feel stupid and lesser than almighty He! This attitude is pervasive throughout the book and not just once did I come across a racial slight! I think Mr.Rosebrock should reveal his true motive for this trash, as well as his other books! In summation, if you support this guy, you are only taking money out the hands of real coders and people who know how to teach this subject. Don't buy it!

Summary: OUTSTANDING!
Review: This is a very informative book! It is extremely thorough from start to finish, with real world examples and solutions. It is obvious that the author put a great deal of time into this book, as evidenced by the in-depth coverage of the code and services. This book, along with www.phpfreaks.com, gives the average coder the tools necessary to become a superior developer.

I highly recommend this book to anyone who is working with PHP and web services, beginner to advanced levels. Great job, Eric!

Summary: Best PHP book ever
Review: This is the best book I've seen so far for the beginner, and I definately wish I had it when I was started learning. Straight to the point is the best way to describe this book. If your new to programming, the sections on arrays, strings and program flow will give you a solid foundation on which to build your skills with. A must in every developers library!!!

Summary: Loads of practical information for your web project
Review: This is the perfect book if you're planning to build a complex website and don't really know how to achieve this. If you need to build a web site with a membership system, news section, content management system, online store, process payments and track visitors, but you don't know very much about PHP scripting, don't think twice. This is your book. It just get to the point. The author gives to you all his experience building large interactive web sites with PHP.

The only drawback that I can see in this book is the title. The chapter about webservices does not tell you anything about building SOAP or XMLRPC servers, instead of that, it tells you how to connect to the Amazon or Google Web services APIs and get the information you need, which is also good.

I definitely recommend it to anyone with this kind of interests, even if he really doesn't know anything about PHP or MySQL.

Summary: Excellent Book for PHP/MySQL Newbies
Review: This title is an excellent starting point for anyone wishing to dive into the world of building interactive/dynamic websites using PHP scripting and MySQL databasing, and could also come in handy for intermediates. The author makes sure the reader understands the topic, whether its shopping cart systems, payment processing, membership systems, etc.

The book also gives an excellent introduction into the logic of databasing, and also explains, in detail, how to integrate a MySQL database into your website. If you wish to learn how to build functional websites from the ground up, this is the book for you.
