Rating: Summary: Good for extended learning about Exchange mechanics. Review: This book was my primary learning tool for Exchange. Redmond obviously knows this product. Unlike MCSE certification books (two of which I also read for exam prep), his is truly a real-world best practice authority (instead of limited to Microsoft's perspective). It's like having an experienced mentor on the subject. I believe it could have been written more concisely (especially the first half), and the index at the end is way too brief--otherwise five stars.
Rating: Summary: Best book around on Exchange Review: This is a great book on Exchange. As well as the technical information there's alot of details on how you should design and implement Exchange - and at the same time the author takes the time to explain why. The thing I like best about the book is that whilst Tony Redmond is obviously a fan of Exchange, he is not afraid to point out its limitations.
Rating: Summary: The book to read if you need to manage an Exchange network Review: This is an excellent book for MS Exchange administrators. The best section of the book for me was the step by step analysis of what to do to recover from a disaster scenario. Coverage of private and public folder structure was also very good.
Rating: Summary: Outstanding Book!!! Review: This is my 2nd Exchange Server book I have purchased and I find this book very useful for running Exchange server daily basis. It has many good points about how Exchange Server should be setup, how it needs to be maintained, etc. It has lots of technical information which I liked. I would recommend this book to any Exchange Server administrator.
Rating: Summary: Great all-around book Review: This was an extremely good book for everyone who is new to Exchange server. It goes very deep into the structure and design of the server, which help one to use it more efficiently. It is aimed towards deployment at an enterprise level, which wasn't MY my personal situation, but really helped me to understand the capabilities of the product. You must buy this book.
Rating: Summary: A good book to explain what happens behind the scenes Review: This was precisely the type of book I was looking for. Having been an Exchange admin for a while, I was searching for a book that goes into detail about the actual mechanics of Exchange. I knew the basic 'how to's' of administration, I wanted to know the 'why's'.It really goes into a great deal of detail, and it might not be the best book for a new admin (all the required information is there, but there is so much data it may overwhelm) but combined with a basic admin book, it's really worth the investment (even for someone starting out). I wish I'd had the book 2 years ago!
Rating: Summary: The Definitive book so far on this subject Review: Tony Redmond has managed to explain the Intricacies of Exchange in both an easy and yet in-depth manner. Leading the reader through some of the more difficult areas in a readable and understandable manner whist being able to inject humor, something that all people who deal with Exchange must possess. Even the most experienced Exchange administrator will find some interesting information within these pages.
Rating: Summary: Not useful for any type of day to day Admin. or Planning Review: Very disappointed in this book. Very limited usefulness in any type of administration, although there is a good section on clustering Exchange. Very limited description of any type of installation procedures or setups. No help in troubleshooting or monitoring of Exchange and no information on Outlook Web Access. Great amount of coverage on routing and innerworkings of directory and connector services. Seems to be written like a college textbook with all background and little useful work experience. Not for beginning Exchange administrators but I can't imagine why an experience admin would need anything in this book.
Rating: Summary: Excellent, the best exchange 5.5 book on the market Review: Well I'm pleased to say that Tony Redmond has produced the best exchange 5.5 book currently available. I work with exchange and recently completed my mcp exams in both exchange 5 and 5.5 so spent a lot of time and money reading lots of exchange material. There are lots of books out there that claim to be able to give you all the knowledge you need to pass the mcse, what I like about this book is that it is not an mcse book. This book covers exchange in a corporate production environment. The author goes into the most indepth detail of the exchange architecture that I have ever come across. Utilising his experience at Digital as the world's number one implementor of exchange, he uses many real world examples of how to deploy maintain and support exchange 5.5. If your going for the exchange mcp exam save your money, don't buy the 101 mcse exchange guides that are out there buy this book. Also if your considering deploying exchange, or are simply a systems person who would like to know more about the product, buy this book.
