Summary: This book is jam-packed, most jam-packed book ever!
Review: This book is loaded with information. Reading the 'basic' chapters will reveal tons of new information about tools you've used hundreds of times before. I was extremely impressed. For a beginner, this is too complex, who wants to learn about velocity graphs right off the bat? Also in order to appreciate all these time saving tips, you must have done things the wrong way for years. It took a very long time to work through this book, if you work at the computer, you will end up putting the book down every paragraph to test something out, if you read it away from the computer, every paragraph justifies a note *try this. Plus this much information is very taxing on your brain; new information = new possibilities. I consider this a 'heavy' read.

There is no filler, in fact, it seems because the authors could not pack everything they wanted into the book, the CD includes 12 more TechTips chapters, and 22 in depth tutorials; if you print this stuff out, you've got a 2nd After Effects book. Is this book still relevant with After Effects 5 out? Yes, it would be a waste of the authors time to update this, all of the information still works -just no v5 features are covered that's all. Suberb!

Summary: THE Best Book for AE
Review: I was new to the world of video editing and animation. But thanks to this book, I could successfully master Adobe's AE. This book not only helped me understand the concepts and principles but gave me their ideas and the how and why behind them.

This book is indeed the best book among all the software books that I've read.

Summary: Great book for digital students!
Review: If you are a student working with after-effects, you NEED this book! It helped me immensely! After-effects can be really confusing, but with this book, the confusion will disappear! I have a ton of software books, that can sometimes make me more confused than I was just before opening it up. But, this book is really easy to understand. Also, it's in English, not c++

Summary: Absolutely filled with information
Review: A lot of computer books have CDs, with questionable value to their content, which just seem to make the book more expensive than it should be. This is NOT one of those books. This book, and CD, are absolutely fantastic. The depth of information they provide is staggering. The lessons on the CD come equipped with detailed .pdfs and example files. A LOT of work went into this. After 8 chapters, I had felt like I had absorbed several books worth of knowledge. If there's any negative to this book, there's almost too much stuff in it. But when paying (this much) for a book, that's a negative I will take any day. Buy this, you'll enjoy it.

Summary: Good book
Review: Overall, this is a good book. Trish and Chris are well known to DV magazine readers and their articles are always informative. However, I just found the information in the book difficult to follow in some cases. If you're using After Effects on the Mac, you'll probably find it a lot easier to follow.

Summary: excellent book
Review: I agree, this is the best book on AE (4). Even if the bound could be better (the pages literally fly) the content is great. The best way to learning this wonderful software.

Summary: Guys trust me, just go for it.
Review: I am 18 years old and I've been creating graphic design since I was 13. I am new to the world of motion graphics, and I found this book very helpful. So I really recommend this book to anyone entering the world of motion graphics, I admire Trish & Chris Meyer.

P.S I cant wait until after effects in production is published.

Summary: "THE" book for After Effects
Review: If you are only going to buy one book about AE, then get this one. Is not only the best book on the subject - that I have read - but the best book about about any program I have worked with... And I have quite a collection. This two know the program like if they made it themselves. They are never patronising, they have a wonderful sense of humour at the right times, and best of all they manage to really teach you the program in such a way that you feel really really competent with it. A lot of extras includedin the cd, they went to the trouble of creating lots of versions of everything they talk about so you understand exactly. You also learned a lot about general stuff. Like video and film standards, vector and pixel art import methods and handling, etc... Nothing was overlooked. A really great book

Summary: A stunningly valuable resource
Review: I count this book and the accompanying CD among my greatest personal treasures. What a privilege to learn from the masters! Clearly Trish and Chris Meyer have the gift of teaching, and they relish passing on what they know with clarity, quality, detail, humor, taste, and generosity. I loved the Total AE instructional videos, but this extraordinary resource far surpasses even those.

Last year when I took and (barely passed) the Adobe Certified Expert Exam for After Effects after having virtually memorized the manual, completed the exercises in "AE Classroom in a Book," and watched the Total Training video tapes, I wondered how anyone could have known the answers to some of the questions on the exam. As I've gradually ingested the Meyers' book (don't plan on knocking it off in a weekend!) I realize I've never fully understood After Effects as they enable me to.

Chris and Trish, if you ever get around to reading these reviews of your book, THANK YOU.
