Rating: Summary: Concise explainations of as/400 operations Review: Having operated DEC VAX computers for 10 years, I wanted to broaden my horizons and look at other systems. No book can replace hands on learning, but this book was a good source, better if you are sitting in front of an AS/400 terminal.
Rating: Summary: Not very Informative - Introduction is right Review: I am currently using this book in class and I believe it's rather useless. First off, the book is only 175 pages long not including the contents and index pages and that isn't anywhere near enough space to cover AS/400 Operations to any detail. Some of the questions in the back of each chapter are fine and the book covers a lot of topics but on a whole, this book just doesn't give enough information. Just one example is WRKJOBSCDE ( Work with Job Schedule Entries which is in Chapter 4 ). They give you a little paragraph and a screen shot of the AS/400. All in all, I am very disappointed with this book and I'm going to buy a different book like " Understanding AS/400 System Operations " by Mike Dawson.
Rating: Summary: Good for beginners, must be good reader. Review: I thought it was an ok book. The writing was OK, sometimes I got lost; I couldn't follow it too well. Chapter 4 (Working with jobs and Message Handling) was VERY helpful; actually, I think chapter 4 makes the book. Chapter 5 (Managing print functions), was really confusing. It just went all over the place. Overall, it is a good beginner's book.Tanster
