Summary: An excellent intermediate-level Java book
Review: This book is exactly what it says it is -- a book for people who have a few years of Java programming experience under their belts. I've programmed in Java for about 6 years, and it's been difficult to keep up with all the new APIs that are being added. I needed a book that would give me a solid overview of a wide variety of topics in Java, and this one really fit the bill. I was pleased with the writing style -- very clear and straight to the point. Unlike some programming books I've read, this was actually a pleasure to read. I've typed in several sample classes from the book, and thus far, I haven't had any trouble with the code failing to compile or not doing what it's supposed to do. I really liked the fact that they put in whole classes, too. I can understand the need to save space and put in just code fragments, but I have to say that the way it was done in this book is a lot more useful. I own somewhere around 25-30 Java books, and I'm already finding that this one is going to move to my top 3 most-used books.
