Rating: Summary: cd is full of errors Review: I've looked at a lot of cert titles and this is as good as any I've run across. For 20 bucks, you get material that's to the point and maps to test objectives, plus there are lots of good questions. For certification it's far better than anything put out by MS Press. If you relied on MS for certification study, you'd never pass the tests. This will at least point you in the right direction.

Rating: Summary: Foundation only Review: On the surface everything seems ok. The book seems to cover 70-210 objectives and I actually learnt some new things here and there. But under the surface it is a different story. Mike Myers fails to realise that Microsoft are constantly reviewing and changing their exam questions and structure. He makes presumptions like "a good 20% of the questions from the professional...tests covered" permissions and "When you are passing the practise questions, you're ready to take the exam". Let me just say that I did the exam the other day and the questions on it were far more complex than this book leads them on to be. This book is a foundation but it fails to grapple with the deeper issues like .msi and .mst files with windows installer and OU and GPO within group policy. Another issue I noticed was that there were errors within the questions and answers. For instance chp 2 question 5. This book is good for a foundation but don't expect to pass the exam with this book as a primary source. I myself studied for 3 weeks using this book and Microsoft's readiness review plus sample practise tests you find on the Internet. I thought I was well prepared. But during the actual exam you start to realise that what you thought you knew from this book means nothing when wading through long paragraph questions, which zap your mental energy and bit by bit eat up the available time. I expected and Mike Myers expects easy one-two line questions and single paragraph questions. But expect long questions, which eat up the clock. In the end I passed. what saved me was remembering certain practise questions from various sites, NOT THIS BOOK. If you really want to do well in this exam study w2k server as well, and do as many prac tests as you can. Otherwise you will scrape through like I did.
Rating: Summary: Lacking depth Review: This book is ok. It brushes upon some serious information without going into detail too many times for me to be very happy with it. It often stops shy of giving full information, only to point to another book offered by the publisher. For example on page 26 when discussing RIS the book starts to explain the process of using RIS and then stops with "For more information on RIS, see Osborne/McGraw-Hill's Windows 2000: The Complete Reference, Chapter 3..." Great I can buy another one of your books to answer the questions that I wanted this book to answer. They do this sort of thing many times throughout the book, and it is irritating to say the least. The Windows 2000 Server book in this series was much better at preparing you for the MCP test. This is not the worst book out there by any means, but I would suggest a different refresher for the test than this book.
Rating: Summary: Great W2K overview Review: This book proves to be an excellent resource when studying for the W2K Pro test. It is clearly written and contains a wealth of information to help prepare for the exam. The review questions were very useful in making sure you had a firm grasp on what was expected for each chapter. I found the book to be written professionally as well as with a sense of humor that made it more enjoyable to read than the average computer text. The author also takes the time to explain computer jargon that may be unfamiliar to those newer to IT or W2k in specific. Each book also includes a CDrom with test prep questions which I thought was a very nice touch and added to the utility of this text. Overall I would highly recommend it.
