Rating: Summary: Very helpful Review: As an IT professional concerned about security, I found this book a great help. Building a good defense requires a good knowledge of the possible attacks. The book lists and explains what those attacks could be.
Rating: Summary: Good Investment Review: As a the Network Administrator for a large city in Michigan, I have found Hack Attacks Revealed to be very informative. The explanations of how things function in the world of TCP/IP are clear and easy to understand. The utilities included on the CD-ROM are some of the best I have seen and it's great that there is a consolidated launch system to get at them. Great work!!
Rating: Summary: Hack Attacks Revealed-A user's perspective Review: There's never been a complete book on the market that covers all aspects of network security like 'Hack Attacks Revealed'. From TCP/IP to Coding Fundamentals this book covers it all and thats not all. On the cd-rom you also get to evaluate the excellent 'Tiger-Suite', which is worth the value of the book alone.
Rating: Summary: Great Material Review: This is a great reference/tool book for any one concerned about security. The tools that accompany the book are excellent as well.
Rating: Summary: Informative, Interesting, educational Review: I found the book "Hack Attacks Revealed" to be very informative and educational. It alarms me that my PC is so vulnerable to attacks, therefore, I found it to be helpful regarding taking more defensive measures to protect my system. I am very interested in purchasing Mr. Chirillo's book "Hack Attack's Denied", also.
Rating: Summary: Any *Serious* beginner has to have this book. Review: The first chapters of John's book represent an incredible TCP/IP primer, and *the* 'networking essentials' for someone new to the game. I found the conversion tables and *glossary* of commands in chapter 6 to be quite useful as a reference. Additionally, there is a generous amount of code provided to aid novice programmers, however, someone who has never been exposed to C would find it difficult to get a firm grasp (read: logic) on the language using just this book. The information in the appendices, although accessible with a google-search on the internet, are informative *and* you don't have to search them :-o All in all, the material is pretty outdated, but a solid resource for someone just breaking into network security or hacking. If your stoked about what you read here and understand the concepts, then you may have found your niche. Keep reading!
Rating: Summary: Sleepless nights! Review: As a beginner in computing. I found the book hack attacks revealed one of the most frightening bedtime stories ever told. Until I completely understand the entire book then I do not feel safe even behind a firewall. Well written and presented in an easy to follow format.
Rating: Summary: Excellent Book Review: Much better than the usual nonsence out there. Excellent tool kit.
Rating: Summary: a must read for those interested in computer security Review: I found this book to be VERY informative and interesting from start to finish. Computer security is a field that has fascinated me for a long time. Now I know how some hacks / attacks are done, and how to prevent them.
Rating: Summary: Very Nice Review: This is a very nice book that covers everything from basic networking to programming.
