Summary: HACK ATTACKS REVEALED
Review: As a relative new user, I found this book a wealth of information on the way computer hackers can attack computer users and disrupt day to day business. The book also helped me to understand the way the web works and and the protocols used in data transmission. I would recommend this book to both new and experienced users of the internet.

Summary: A Must read for Net Admins.
Review: This book takes you to the root of CRACKING not hacking. It lets people like myself defend aginst network intrusions. The tools that come on the CD-ROM are great, they allow you to actually TRY and CRACK your own networks, some of the tools helped me find a weakness in my LAN that I was able to patch that I didn't know existed.

If you like to read about CRACKING Networks, this book is a MUST READ. It is well worth the price.

Summary: Great book, a lot of goodies
Review: This is a big book, over 900 pages, whose value is in the hints & tips and graphical examples. The CD is loaded with goodies and some folks will find it useful to have all you need in one place. There are also extensive walkthroughs of some topics which makes it unique in this category.

Summary: Very Good Reading
Review: I found this book to be a very good high level overview of hacking attack methods and vulnerabilities. It gives a good amount of information on know system vulnerabilities across almost any platform and hardware, as well as general knowledge about what types of attacks exist. I wish that it had spent more time on practical countermeasures and real-world dectection of attacks, and less time on large code examples of know attacks. Overal, it is a very good introduction to network security vulnerabilities.

I am a network engineer with more than 8 years experience networking computers on LAN, WAN, and Internet under a variety of platforms and hardware configurations, and I found quite a number of system vulnerabilities in this book that I was unaware of.

Summary: Clearly the best book on Information Security by far.
Review: My name is Kelly Davis.

I have purchased most of the books out to date on Information Security as I am in that industry. I have read much on this topic and have seen none better then John Chrillio's Hack Attacks Revealed. As in most of the related jobs in the IT field we are all short on one thing.. TIME.. That is why I feel this book works so well. The way it is put together and the detail of the terms and topics this is a must have book for any one who needs to be made aware of the hazards in our electronic lives. It has been said, "Knowledge is Power" while I do not deny this fact it is a far more important task of learning how to protect the information stores that this knowledge comes from. If you want to go from zero information security knowledge to being able to understand it this is a great book and place to start!

Sincerely
Kelly Davis

Summary: Invaluable Source of Information
Review: As someone new to the world of security I've found Hack Attacks Revealed to be an invaluable source of information.

Useful as a reference as well as for straight reading, I have learned a lot more than just security through reading this book.

Not too intimidating for the security novice, I'd recommend it as a must-have for anyone interested in bullet-proofing their system.
