Rating: Summary: Great base for a Photoshop beginner Review: I am a beginning Photoshop user and I found this book to be great help. For an advanced Photoshop user, this could only be a simple reference book. It does not go into extreme depth with explanations on the many possible uses for each tool or function found in Photoshop. As the title implies, this book is used to teach how to use the application and its tools. It is well organized and starts with setting up Photoshop and ImageReady and progresses to teach the use of the tools found in Photoshop. It does this by the use of Tasks in every chapter. In the tasks, the tool or functions (like filters) are applied to (color) images with step by step instructions on what is happening and how to control what is happening to the image. The tasks are short and clear, usually only 2 pages in length. At the end of the tasks, additional how-to tips are given to understand 1 or 2 other ways to use the tool/function just taught. The use of full color to show the photographs in the examples along with the Photoshop menus and controls help to convey the lesson to the reader with simple visual understanding. I've read the entire book and now better understand and use Photoshop CS, but still use this book as a reference on how to do something when I just can't remember. It succeeded on what it set out to do and I love it.
