Summary: Excellent - Outlines the operation of Exchange Server 5.5
Review: One item to note though - the author is very biased in favor of Microsoft products, specifically Exchange Server 5.5. There is little comparison with other servers. But if you're an administrator, it covers the bases well with informative case summaries and realistic situations that may occur and what to do about it.

Summary: Fantastic! And I thought I knew Exchange 5.5
Review: PURCHASE THIS BOOK I read this book in 4 days. As an ex-military sys admin of over 20 Exchange 5.5 servers, running 5 for the #3 ranked web host, and now 15 for another company, I have been working with Exchange since the beta of 4.0, and loving 5.5. I have experienced all sorts of disasters, site migrations, and many other situations (sure boss, we can do that), I thought I knew just about everything there was to Exchange 5.5. But I wanted to learn more about this powerful software application, and this book was the trick. Jim begins with the preparation phases, organizing your thoughts so that you have a successful roll-out/upgrade. It covers in great details day to day operation. Jim also gives some great advice for disaster recovery, but he first spends time explaining what you need to do to avoid disasters to begin with. He then covers routine maintenance (and automating those tasks) some additional bells and whistles that I've been trying to learn for months now. I STRONGLY RECOMMEND THIS BOOK if you are an experienced beginner or an expert administrator with Exchange 5.5. If you love Exchange like I do, you will not be able to put it down til you are done. Make sure you read the scenarios, the book is full of them, from situations he's lived through. Many of these will help you to learn the real-world scenarios that you might encounter and how to help you survive. With this book in hand, you'll impress everyone around you with your new knowledge. The only regret I have is that it is paperback and not hardcover.

Summary: What is Exchange Server 5.5 - 24seven all about?
Review: Thank you for considering purchasing Exchange Server 5.5 24seven. This book is part of an exciting new series of books from Sybex designed for the more experienced systems administrator. As the title says, the books are designed to help you keep your systems up and running 24 hours per day 7 days per week.

When I began working on this book, in addition to drawing from my own experiences, I consulted many system administrators to learn about their experiences running Exchange. I asked a lot of questions, including: "What do you wish you could do over?", "What do you wish you had known before you started your installation?", "What did you do wrong (and right)?" From these experiences, I have built chapters on Exchange operations, maintenance, customization, troubleshooting and disaster recovery. Many Exchange administrators reviewed the material as I wrote and provided me with invaluable insight in to their own experiences. Wherever possible, I have included those experiences in the book in the form of case studies and Exchange@Work sidebars.

The topics that were particularly popular with administrators who reviewed the book are: messaging security including how to use the Microsoft Certificate server to create X.509v3 certificates for use with S/MIME clients, maintenance procedures and monitoring, connectivity and Internet messaging security, and customization.

This book is targeted towards experienced Exchange administrators; it is not for beginners. (If you are looking for an introduction to Exchange, check no further than Mastering Exchange Server 5.5 by Barry Gerber.) If you decide to purchase this book, I hope it will help you to avoid future problems, solve your current ones, maximize your uptime and get you out of the office by 5:00 P.M.

Summary: The first book I open when I need to look things up...
Review: This book can make mail admin's life easier. I did not pickup this book from the beginning. I had Exchange 5.5 unleashed a year ago. I thought it would cover everything if I looked hard enough. To my suprise, this book is the best book for the real world. I enjoyed every pages I have read. It shows you how to implement solid Exchange server. All the cautions that you should be aware of, i.e. how to restrict relaying without simply disable it. and good security practice. Highly recomended for all Exchange admins.

Summary: On Exchange don't miss this one!
Review: This book is giving you hundreds of useful and practical advises about Exchange administration & configuration. Jim Mc Bee knows what he is talking about. Remember there is NO reference book about Exchange but don't miss what is in this one.

Summary: Exactly the book I was looking for
Review: This is the book I was looking for all the time, since my company decided to install MS Exchange Server as messaging platform. The reading is very easy (like a John Grisham - couldn't put it down), and there are so many tips and hints, that my book is plastered with post-it notes which indicate what to do and look. Very interesting are the parts about Maintenance and Security. I can recommend it to everyone who has to keep an Exchange Server box up and running.

Summary: If you administer Exchange this is a must
Review: Working with Exchange everyday this is a book I recommend to any IT person wanting to know more about Exchange. This is the best Exchange book I have purchased so far. Don't pass this book up.
