The book is an excellent best practices guide (or a framework) for those who wish to see a value of information (voi) and a return on investment (roi) in the academic world.

This book has justly focused its business mindmap to academic samples from, Indiana University, San Diego State University, Montana State University, and so on. Thematically it deals with enterprise portal's value as a service node, virtual campus and its feasibility, demand and supply of the technological infrastructure, etcetra.

Summary: Long Winded and Off Subject
Review: The correct title of this book is "Designing Campus Portals". It is a collection of research papers written by Profs. There is very little information regarding "designing a portal". If you are involved with a higher education portal then the content contained will be of some intrest. But if you are doing anything corporate in nature you will find this book absolutely frustrating as the style is very academic.

Jafari and Sheehan have done a superb job of tying together critical elements of theory, practice, and case studies. Contributions by leaders such as Steve Ehrmann and Bill Graves make this required reading for strategic planners as well as for those who build and maintain university portals.
