Rating: 5 stars
Summary: Excellent
Review: As a software trainer, I have found this book to cover all the subjects that I need. But, more importantly, it is the only book I've found that describes how to define dynamic names for ranges using the Offset function. The latter is probably the single most powerful feature in Excel as it obviates the need to program range selections for database, validation, and other purposes.

Summary: Mastering Excel 97 is an excellent reference tool
Review: Excellent text written to be understood by Excel users of any experience level. This book covers all the bases and has become an essential part of my computer bookshelf.

Summary: Doesn't cover VBA
Review: I was looking for a book which covered VBA programming in Excel 97 and this book isn't what I wanted.

All the book has is a few pages on running the macro recorder.

Rating: 5 stars
Summary: Better than Microsoft's own book
Review: I've read the 2-book Microsoft "Step-by-Step" Excel set, the "Excel for Dummies" and the Active Education study guide. None of them come close to this text. I wish I would have started with this book...I wouldn't have needed to waste my money on the others. I highly recommend this resource.

Summary: Helpful, but misses advanced points
Review: It is great book when it comes to pushing the reader from a medium to a more advanced level. VBA is clerverly left aside, as it would be pointless explore it in a book intended to teach true worksheet skills. Still, missing topics like array formulas, together with more elaborate applications of Excel techiniques, would make this a 5-star book.

Summary: Mastering Excel 97 is an excellent reference tool
Review: The company I work for recently converted from Lotus to Excel 97. I needed an Excel reference that covered everything from simple cell formating to writing complex formulas. I have been very pleased with the material in this book as well as the casual writing style. I would recommend Mastering Excel 97 to everyone from the Excel beginner to the veteran.

Summary: Excellent
Review: This book is so comprehensive. It`s structure is step by step with two colour pages. I chosed this book because I looked all Excel books on the shelf in a huge book store, this was the best one believe me. Buy this book. Highly recommended.
