Summary: Great Premiere Book
Review: I spent several frustrating days trying to use the Premiere 6 help screens to learn about the program. My wife brought this book home from the library. What a great book. It takes you from the begining and builds up your mental tool set step by step, with small activities which are two pages at a time. These small activities are well documented with pictures of the sreens step by step. It also provides helpful hints about Premiere as you go along. Each activity teaches you something you will need to finaly export a video. I highly recommend this book. Its really a model which other software texts should follow. The quality of the printing is excellent.

Summary: Not a good buy
Review: If you are like me you like a book that really gets you into it no matter where you are in the book. In other words if you are interested in the material at lesson nine that is where you start. Well this book doesn't even come close to doing that. I am an advanced computer user and pick up things easily. This book forces you to creep your way slowly through the lessons. Forget about looking up how to do a specific task. You may find this book usefull if you are an absolute beginner to the computer software interface. Otherwise I suggest you get something a little more advanced.

Summary: Perfect for my needs
Review: Simple, to the point visual walkthrough of what you need to know to create smooth semi-professional videos. Not cluttered with the stuff you'll never use. Focused on those things that you really need and will really use.

Summary: Its simplistic but worth the cash.
Review: Sure its simple, but if you need something that's
not then you could probably figure out Adobe Premiere 6
without a book. I'm a 17 yr. old amature movie
maker and was somewhat stumped by Adobe Premiere. I
skipped about the first five chapters and went to the stuff
I couldn't figure out on my own. It's step by step process took out the guess work.

Summary: The book deceives you
Review: The author promises to take you through the Adobe Premiere step by step. You expect that the author will walk you through at least one complete assignment. Once you finish your first task, however, you discover that the next task is not connected to the previous one, and then the next task, again, is not connected to the one you've just finished. Very soon, you realize that this book is no different than the Adobe's User Guide -- it doesn't have any structure, it doesn't have a sequence of assignments from simple to more complicated. You simply perform different commands, but you have no concept of Adobe yet. You are on page 90, but you haven't edited a single clip; actually, you haven't done anything meaningful yet. Many terms are not defined, many contents menus are hard to find, many tasks are similar to each other. For instance, you are constantly asked to open files or projects, but you don't do anything with them. Then again, you are asked to close Adobe, open it again, open a file or project, and then close it. Very often, the author assumes that you are doing your own work on your own files between his tasks. Then why buy his book? It was a waste of time and money to read the first 90 pages. I am not going to read two hundred more. I am going back to User Guide.

Summary: Great for newbies only
Review: This book is clearly for beginners, who are willing to sit down and spend the time going through the steps of the many tasks that make up the book.

The book is organised such that you basically have to follow through all the tasks in order not to get lost.

The tasks are bite-sized, occupying 2 pages and made up of about 6 steps, each step illustrated in color. If you do follow the steps, it's hard to get lost, since every step is well-illustrated, and they even point to you exactly where to click (which borders on being insulting).

It is important to bear in mind the fact that this book is not meant to be a reference book, where you flip to a particular section to find out how to do stuff. You'd probably be disappointed.

Also, since this book as task-oriented, it does not really show you the steps involved in a real project. In other words, going through this book may not properly equip you do successfully complete a large scale project. More experience would be needed. Otherwise, get another book.

All in all, this is great for true beginners, but if you want to go further in Premiere, be prepared to buy another book.

Summary: How to Use Adobe Premiere 6
Review: This is a very good starter instruction for Premiere. It will get you to the point where you can use all the major features of the program and produce a nice video. Not recommended for those already familiar with Premiere. It is written with complete instructions, including where to click and which menu to select and what keyboard function key to select. I found it very useful for the first few weeks, but then you'll outgrow it. I would have given it 5 stars had there been a "Part 2" for more advanced topics. If Mr. Dixon DOES put out a Part 2, I'll buy that one also.
