Summary: Pretty good bang for the buck
Review: This book was used for our VB Intro course at college. It is an excellent book for the price. You could go through the entire book on your own, without an instructor, and do very well. The tutorials are excellent. The only area that I find lacking is the index. I think a category cross-reference or a much more complete index is necessary, if you are to use this book as a reference manual in the future. The best thing is you get a full, working model of Visual Basic. Not bad for the few dollars you have to pay for this book! Very good overall.

Summary: Highly recommended for beginners...
Review: This is a "from the ground up book" that introduces the extreme basics and takes you step by step through the lessons to the point where you can be writing simple programs within a few days or hours depending on how much time you spend at it. The review is missing a star because I was getting some what bored because it is so specific on so many things in the first half, but got better towards the end. The lessons force you to actually write the code and test and debug programs that accompany the book. You go to www.course.com and enter the ISBN number and download the student files. -The authors' approach to writing this book is unmatched. I also recommend "An Inroduction To Programming With C++" by the same author.

Summary: Best computer book I've bought
Review: This is not only the best VB book I've seen, but its the best written computer book I've seen. It is intended for people who have never taken a programming class before. The book assumes that you know nothing, so you never get left behind. There is a detailed explanation for every line of code in the book. If you can't learn VB from this book, then you might as well give up on programming. It doesn't get any easier.

Review: This is the best programming book I ever used

Summary: Programming with Microsoft Visual Basic 6.0 by Diane Zak
Review: This is the best programming book I've ever come across. It is concise and easy to understand. Even if your programming or basic computer skills are limited, you will understand. If you want to learn VB, this is the best place to start.

Summary: Best textbook I've ever used.
Review: Visual Basic is my first programming language and I found this book to be an excellent guide. The author teaches the material extremely well and she succinctly repeats important bits of information when that information is crucial to you understanding the current material. This is very useful because it prevents readers from feeling "lost" or frustrated. The book is also very thorough, explaining the reasons behind what you are learning. Another great thing about this book is that it prevents you from feeling overwhelmed by the large task of learning Visual Basic by "chunking" the information into small manageable pieces for learning. The book has 10 tutorials, each tutorial has 3 lessons, with examples, followed by multiple choice, exercises and discovery lessons. Next time I buy a computer book, I will first check if Diane Zak has written a book in the area that I am interested in. If she has, then I will buy that book. She is an excellent author. I guess that is why our university has been using books written by Diane Zak for a few years now.
