Rating: Summary: A Solid Beginning... Review: It's a distinct pleasure to come across a software book that has been thoroughly researched, well thought-out, is organized and provides just the right mix of ease-of-use and in-depth detail for its readers. Betsy Bruce's work here is very well done and certainly qualfies as one of the best computer books I've read recently. It's easy to see that she has a background in education and training based simply on how well she presents her material and how carefully she has sequenced the instructions in this book.Whether you are a new user of Dreamweaver MX and need to understand the basics of designing for the Web, or an experienced web designer who needs to understand the process of developing learning applications this book has something for you. From laying out pages, to controlling the presentation of your pages with Cascading Style Sheets, to the options for establishing database connections the book takes a thorough look at the many ways that instructional designers can use Dreamweaver's tools for developing courseware. For more accomplished developers, the chapters on instructional design will help you understand the process of designing courses and how the course development proceeds during the design phase of a project. This is simply an excellent book. Well-written, logically organized, and comprehensive in its approach, you won't find a better book for developing eLearning applications than this one!
Rating: Summary: "eLearning with Dreamweaver MX" Review: Most books by Macromedia Press are well written and aimed towards the beginner. This book is neither well written and is aimless. I bought the book to learn more about coursebuilder and although i know quite a bit about dreamweaver, I found this book of little help. There are no files to accompany the book, even though the author (once in a while) refers to them. The biggest problem I found with this book is that it fails to explain with examples, often refering to files you were supposed to create without telling you what file or providing a file for those of us that don't want to start from page 1. The other major drawback is that the book appears unfinished. With a bit more effort and polishing it could be a great book, but as it is, it is difficult to read and very hard to learn with.
