Summary: More than a how-to, a course in editing theory and aesthetic
Review: I buy software tutorial books for something more, and Tom Wolsky's book on Final Cut Pro is a marvel. If you're new to video editing, you can use the tutorial footage provided and play along, lesson by lesson. But unlike, say, Adobe Classroom in a Book books (which I like very much), Tom uses sidebar bits to go far beyond the nuts and bolts and give you the tools to make editing decisions that will make your work... work. There is an art to editing, and with all the accessible tools and programs and software out there, Tom's instruction lets you rise above the crowd with finished videos that are elegant and communicate better than if you just competently assembled a story. If you are an experienced editor, the book is organized and indexed so that you can easily find tricks, tips and advice that you need. But if you're like me, you will find yourself reading the in-depth background sidebars and discovering that your understanding of post-production skyrockets.

Summary: Tom Wolsky's Book on Final Cut Pro 3 - "AWESOME"
Review: I consider myself a pro user of FCP but Tom's book (...) is an incredible learning tool.

I'm teaching a friend FCP and this book has great easy to follow guides for beginners and lot's of great stuff for Pros as well. I especially like the information on color correcting which I needed help with.

This book is a must have and is well written. It's much easier to obtain quality information than using the Apple Manual.

By the way this book arrived a couple days after my Daughter and I've only managed to read a little so I look forward to getting deeper into it.

Thanks TOM and CreativeCow.net

Summary: In five minutes I learned a great deal.
Review: I have browsed many FCP guides and after spending five minutes with this one I found quite a few useful things I could not easily find in other books. That is why I am ordering it today. I'm not sure I will run all the editing workshops witht he suppied clips, but I think many will be useful.

Summary: Worthwhile book
Review: I knew final cut pro fairly well when I started the tutorials, so I wasn't sure how much more I would learn. But I did learn more. I learned tricks to be more efficient, and now know more techiniques and shortcuts. So it was worth the time spent reading, in time saved later.

Many chapter are dedicated to non-editing stuff, like titling and compositing, which he explains are now important for editors to know. Another reviewer or 2 seemed to think the author was a poor teacher, I didn't seem to have a problem with the text, which was generally well written and logically presented.

Summary: Not for button pushers- a pro course for newcomers!
Review: I'm a working professional editor. I read Tom's first edition. I was blown away by the expert mix of how-to and why edits work which can only come from a veteran master editor who is also a teacher. This is the book that gives you everything needed to learn the application and the principles of editing form, structure, pacing, music-- wisdom you don't get from a dry software-only book. Tom layers in all the FCP operations-- appearing just where they should! It's an exceedingly robust work. You can spend well-structured time with it, as I did, practice the designed edit exercises with the supplied CD along with your keyboard chops from the included KeyGuide™. Both editing skill and software know-how come together here in a dawning experience. In my view, it's either this, or a semester in film school containing separate classes on editing theory, editing practice, and a solid FCP course to boot!

Summary: The Best FCP 3 Resource For Beginners to Pros
Review: The Final Cut Pro book that every editor needs. Tom hits all the bases in this new release. As a Certified FCP Instructor, I finally have a book that I can wholeheartedly recommend to all of my students.

Summary: It's a good book BUT
Review: This is a great book but not if, like me, you want to know 'why?'. If you're a professional and you're moving to FCP from using some other professional editing software then this is probably the book you need. But if you need to learn about FCP from the ground up then try the Revolutionary Final Cut Pro 3 book. It starts at the basics and tells you why you'd do something and explains it the way that I like.

Summary: Whatever
Review: This is book is filled with information that does not make sense. It's very clear to me that this author is not a teacher and just some Final Cut Pro head. Tom Wolsky should become a teacher before he starts writing books on how to learn Final Cut Pro. If you want to be confused, then buy this book.

Rating: 1 stars
Summary: AVOID - Do not buy this book
Review: This is the most confusing book on any software applicatio I have ever picked up - and I've looked at some poor books. This author has no business writing. I found several errors in this book due to misinformation on the authors part and poor technical editing by the publisher. If you buy another Final Cut Pro book it will be better because you cannot get any worse than this!

You're better off burning your $$$ - it'll be more fun.
