Summary: Very thorough-Good for Real-World and MCSE Review!
Review: This book is a great addition to any W2K networker's library. It provides real-world examples, helpful troubleshooting tips, and is written in an easy to read format.

It is also helpful as a review and technical resource for those individuals working on their MCSE's in W2K. It provides a good background, and many of the screen shots and menus that (unfortunately) must be memorized in order to pass the MCSE exams. It's not designed as an MCSE study book, but nonetheless it is useful and necessary information.

Summary: not to the point
Review: this book may be considered a windows 2000 bible. I could use this book like a reference, not as a book to learn windows 2000 from.

Summary: From the particulate to the general
Review: This book starts at the base level of the OS and then drills up to the general concepts.. Intuitively backwards for students. Not many useful diagrams or pictures. Very few "good" examples for configuration. Author uses complex domain and host naming examples where a simplier structure would have been more instructive. This is a nuts and bolts book. As a MCT and MCSE I would not recommend it for learning the product but as a reference only. To the authors defense most of the technical informaton is correct.

Summary: Simply Phenomenal
Review: This one's not for the light-hearted. If you've read the other reviews, you will realize that this one's not a book that you're going to sit down and read from cover to cover. But if you want the information FULLY, then you need this book. If you're looking to get certified and have no clue what you're talking about after taking the test, this is not the book for you. But if you're serious about learning the in's and out's of the system, you need to get up right now and get it. The coverage on EVERY subject is more than you need to know, and just when you think the information flow has stopped, you turn the page and realize that there's much more for you to learn. Great job New Riders!!

Summary: The best book I've ever read on Windows 2000
Review: This should not be the first book you read on the subject, but it may be the last one. The explanations run to the core of how the OS operates. The writing style is so smooth. I've spent countless hours with a pen and a cup of coffee digging into this tome. There are a few minor inacuracies that result from modifications being made to the OS after the book was released, but nothing crucial or terribly confusing. Don't let the size intimidate you! Once it grabs hold, you'll want to read it all. (Just don't leave it on the table when you got the restroom, or the waitress might mistake it for a phone book and put it with the payphones. This happened to me."
