Summary: Good enough for a beginner
Review: I didn't need one of those big fat everything books to lug around. This one gives me enough to get my work done with a few laughs here and there.

Rating: 5 stars
Summary: A great start, but great for intermediate users, too
Review: I got this book from the library three times for my sister, who is a beginning computer user, but as we worked through a lot of the information, I found myself saying, "Wow, I didn't know how to do that!" several times. So I'm finally breaking down and just BUYING one! It always amazes me how many features of Word we aren't even aware of. I know it has really helped her get "unstuck" without calling me. It's always great to be able to figure it out on your own, and this book helps you to do just that. I would, however, recommend one of those laminated cheat sheets available at office supply stores. The cheat sheets at the front of the book are a little too simple.

Summary: A Helpful Introduction to Word 2000
Review: I know you're finding lots of Word 2000 books here at Amazon. Here are a few hints at why you might choose mine:

- Instead of listing hundreds of features, I guide you through the set of the most productive ones.

- There's a decent index and glossary to help you find things and understand them.

- The book includes a tear-out card that lists the common keyboard shortcuts if you don't like using a mouse.

- The book averages about one picture per page to help you understand the concepts.

- Lots of optional tips, warnings, and comments are included in most chapters.

Who am I? I run my own consulting organization that helps businesses manage their Word documents. For over nine years I've gained lots of experience training secretaries and managers who weren't all that excited about a word processor, but needed to become productive to keep their jobs. Many had WordPerfect experience and just wanted to know how something is done in Word. Some were completely new to word processing. All of these experiences helped create this 340-page book.

Table of Contents:

PART ONE (Chapters 1-7): 1) The Top Ten New Features of Word 2000; 2) Word 2000 Basics; 3) Using Word 2000 Help; 4) Basic Editing and Text Formatting; 5) Spelling, Grammar, and Thesaurus; 6) Saving Documents; and 7) Printing Documents

PART TWO (Chapters 8-15): 8) Can't Find Something?; 9) Enhanced Formatting Options; 10) What's Hiding in the Margins?; 11) Decorating Documents with Pictures; 12) Multimedia Features in Documents; 13) Preparing Tables; 14) Importing Any Existing Text; 15) Working with Multiple Documents

PART THREE (Chapters 16-21): 16) Sharing your Documents; 17) Word Power Tools; 18) Desktop Publishing Techniques; 19) Templates, Themes, and Styles; 20) Customizing Word 2000; 21) Using Word with Excel, PowerPoint, and Access

PART FOUR (Chapters 22-24): 22) Creating a Web Page Using Word; 23) Working with Web Frames; 24) Publishing Your Web Page

Thanks for reading, and thanks for considering this book. Good luck in your adventures with Word 2000!

Summary: Maybe I'm not smart enough
Review: I warn you this review finds me in a bad mood.
This is too much of a sales pitch for Microsoft Word 2000: "the greatest word processor ever created" "easier" "improved" "personalized just for you" etc. The book does not tell you any of the common glitches... No help for any of this from the Complete Idiot's Guide.
