Rating: 4 stars
Summary: A good reference, not for beginners
Review: This book is heavy on information and light on examples, buy it only as a supplement to another book on Linux. Also, it should have a penguin on the cover, but it has a horse.

Rating: 4 stars
Summary: A good buy
Review: Great for quick reference. Little on GUIs, but no GUI is really standard. Good stuff on PERL and shell scripts. Helpful to the somewhat Linux experienced, but I wouldn't recommend it for someone who's just started.

Rating: 5 stars
Summary: A Great Reference Book
Review: I have found this book to be invaluable for the user who is a beginner-intermediate user. This book is not a tutorial so if you want a book that walks you thru an installation or setup of xwindows this is not it. If you want a book that explains the commands their format and switches this book is for you. Invaluable to a Network Administrator. Great Job!!

Summary: Indispensible
Review: I find this book to be indispensible. I refer to it constantly, it's much faster and more accessible than a man page, well laid out, too.

Summary: very bad
Review: Don't buy this book for starters of Linux. It contains a lot of information but little to help you start out with Linux. Crucial stuff like X windows are left out completely and who doesn't know that X windows is one of the many pains in Linux. But the greatest worry for buyers of this book is that Linux kernel 2.2 is coming out soon and will render a lot of the stuff here redundant.

Summary: Great Reference book
Review: This is a great linux book. Easy to find explanation of commands and nice information on shells, etc. If you are looking for a book to learn linux i wouldn't really recommend it. but it's a nice reference. it always stays within 5 feet of my computer

Summary: Essential for EVERY Linux user
Review: This is another fine book by ORA, and a must-have for every Linux user, from the absolute beginner to the most advanced hacker. If you are a seasoned hacker, you immediately experience the value of this reference; if you're a newbie, you WILL need this book sooner or later. It's money well spent, as is the case with any of ORA's books.

Summary: man pages lite
Review: I was really dissapointed with this book. I own a few of the nutshell series (java, etc) and consider them very good., but this book was a waste of ink. There is nothing in this book that you couldn't get by just reading the man pages. What we needed were examples!

Rating: 2 stars
Summary: Like man pages
Review: I was hoping this book would have more about the system specific issues of Linux like how to make a new kernel, administer modules, users, groups, basic networking, etc. things that you couldn't just look up in a man page. It's pretty much a condensed version of the command man pages and reference to some editors. You can get that stuff online when you are in a command shell. What I expected is a book that has helpful insights into Linux system and network administration that assumes you know the basics but just need some extra reminders on how to keep your Linux system running smoothly.

Rating: 5 stars
Summary: One of the BEST
Review: This book, which I have just read last month covers every part that is needed to know by every Linux users. Not only it covers commands for users but also commands for System Administrator and so on. The language is simple, everyone can understand what it is trying to say. Well, I will comment more later.
