Rating: Summary: The Place to Start Review: This book is THE one to start with if you are a competent programmer but need instruction on adding functionality to a web site. She gets right to the point and gives great examples. Everyone I have recommended this book to has been pleased. Unix oriented.
Rating: Summary: A "MUST HAVE"! Review: This book is the single most helpful text around, in my opinion. I have been looking in "How to write CGI Programs" books in major bookstores for quite a while, but I have not found anything nearly as comprehensive and easy to read as this book. It taught me, a virtual Perl novice (but not a programming novice!), how to write a comprehensive Internet questionnaire in a matter of a couple of days. An added bonus is the Internet site linked to the book, including the discussion board where the author actually answered my programming questions.
Rating: Summary: Helpful, but not amazing Review: This book was helpful getting access to Perl scripts and implementing them. However, this book lacks in explaining certain aspects clearly. It doesn't teach you the Perl language, it only shows you how to use it. If you want to learn Perl and everything about it, I suggest buying "Learning Perl."
Rating: Summary: Could this book be an BETTER! Review: This is an great book on perl, gets you started right off to the code, and is great for anyone looking to geting into perl, I my self was new to perl but not to programming, and found this book the best, teaching and reference book out there, it also give you links to all the source code, html, and working examples online, a must have for anyone getting into CGI perl. A++
Rating: Summary: Learn CGI quickly. Excellent for beginners Review: Using this book you will need no understanding of UNIX, C, HTML or other programming stuff. The book explains clearly everything you should know. Moreover, it gives you a good introduction to security matters and the UNIX operating system. The book's scripts are available online; in that site a couple of errata is also pointed out (very simple, but you would like to know).
Rating: Summary: Great book for the HTML coder who needs to learn CGI fast Review: When I first picked up this book, I was surprised to see that it was only 210 pages. But those pages are filled great information. I learned more from this book that I have from books three times the size. This book has expanded my skills from an HTML coder to a novice Perl programmer in less than a week. If you already understand HTML and a little JavaScript, this book will teach you the basics of Perl and help you create CGI forms and database front-ends very quickly. I hope Hamilton writes "CGI Programming 102."
Rating: Summary: Easy as pie. Review: Wow, what a great book! No other book can get you into the meat of programming in Perl specifically for cgi interface. The author goes to great lengths to make things organized and easy to understand. I picked up the basics of the language in no time using this book, and if you want to spice up your web site to the absolute max, then you need this.
