Rating: Summary: Learn HTML in a Weekend Review: Good introductory HTML book & CD, but once I hit the Web Forms chapter and realized I was being taught to use a pre-packaged software (WebForms) instead of learning pure HTML forms creation, I was ready to throw the book away. The author did himself a big disservice by taking this route.
Rating: Summary: Learn How To Use Some Other Company's Software In A Weekend Review: I bought this book assuming I would learn HTML and I did to a small extent. There absolutly nothing wrong with the way Callihan instructs the reader, in fact he writes to people who have just purchased a computer or a modem. However the most advanced HTML programming learnt in the book is creating tables, stuff which can be learnt on-line without a hassle. For forms and frames however he just teaches you how to use shareware programs included on the CD and not how to do the pure HTML code. This book also includes a tutorial on Paint Shop Pro and a nice little reference for HTML code which I liked. The book has it's high points but is intendend for beginners, and if you know how to program advanced tables in HTML, stay the hell away from this book.
Rating: Summary: Not for me! Review: I expected creating a web page to interesting and exciting. This book is dreadfully technical and downright boring.

Rating: Summary: Turns the Novice into an Experienced User Review: I originally bought this book at a Barnes and Noble, but eventually made my way to Amazon.com to purchase it for my friends! This book is a VERY thorough HTML tutorial, using step-by-step examples that draw on the many samples and software included on the accompanying CD-ROM. Its hands-on approach made learning inevitable! I read it in three days, and by the end of the week I had created my own website (using frames) from scratch! www.rondestefano.com
Rating: Summary: Learn HTML in a Weekend Review: I picked up this book on Friday Night, (as the book starts) and actually devoted my weekend to to learning HTML just to see if it could be done like the book said. I literally learned the book within a weekend! No kidding! This book keeps you interested and helps you learn quickly and efficently!
Rating: Summary: Great book for the HTML novice. Review: The book's structure was unique and refreshing. The tutorials were to the point and well put together. I would have liked to see the chapter on Forms be done with pure HTML rather than with the ugly shareware "Web Forms". Is the author getting commission on this piece of junk? Other than that, the utilities on the CD are great.
Rating: Summary: Great starter book and reference Review: This 3rd edition is very different from the previous edition, which I skimmed in a bookstore. In this 3rd edition the author NO LONGER uses pre-packaged software (FrameIt and WebForms) to create frames and web forms, instead, you are taught using pure HTML, which is the way it should. I am somewhat new to HTML and wanted a book to teach me HTML in the shortest time possible. I completed this book in a weekend just like the title says, and found it to have a very personal yet concise style of writing that put me at ease with the subject. The author alerts you to many pitfalls and has excellent tips along the way. If a sentence brought up a question in my mind, sure enough, it was answered in the next sentence or two. This edition now comes with a short but excellent intro on Cascading Style Sheets and points you to sources on the web for more complete info...
Rating: Summary: Excellent starter book! Review: This book was the first book I ever purchased on HTML. I found the book to be an invaluable tool for the beginner. I breezed through the book in 3 days as the book recomends and gained valuable insite in beginning HTML. I am very happy with my purchase.
Rating: Summary: Learn HTML with this book! Review: This is the first book I've ever purchased on HTML - and it's still my most used. Though I learned it over many weekends, it was still just as effective. The lessons are the right length, and everything is explained very simply - but without oversimplifying or boring you. The files and (demo)programs on the disc are awesome. I still use some of the backgrounds from the disc today! And to dissagree with what another rewiewer wrote, you CAN learn how to make great, and partly complex webpages with this book. And yes, it is a beginners' book. But that's why it's called LEARN HTML in a Weekend; but like I said, I still use it as a reference book today. The extra lessons on working with graphics and other media are also great. If you are interested in learning HTML, or you've tried another book, and it didn't work for you, buy this book!
