Rating: Summary: From Mario Camou, January 20, 2000 Review: Linux is the greatest operating system in existence today (but of course, you know that, or you wouldn't be reading this!). Being a work of love and dedication, rather than of market economics, guarantees that it is the most stable, most complete, fastest-growing operating system around, aside from being the coolest one!Within the Linux distributions, Debian is the one that most follows the Linux tenets of open development. This makes Debian the most stable and complete of the Linux distributions. It's an awesome work of dozens of volunteers. Many people are coming into the Linux camp from other parts of the OS landscape. And many people in the Linux community are gravitating towards Debian. However, Linux is complex...and Debian more so. Because of this, we have tried to write a book to help all the people new to Debian (and even to Linux) get off the ground. Experienced folks will also learn a few things from the book! (I know I did!). What we have tried to do with this book, is cover what most people need to know to install, configure, run and administer Debian. We have tried to make this the most complete, thorough and in-depth reference to Debian Linux...and I think we have achieved it. From the newest newbie to the experienced guru, whether you manage a huge network of Linux machines or just want to install it on your desktop at home, you're sure to find something of interest in this book.
Rating: Summary: A must have for beginners and intermediate users Review: The book is excelent for beginners to intermediate users, but more oriented to the sysadmins. It covers all importante aspects of installing, configuring and maintaining Debian. If it were a little bit more broader it would cover everything needed. The only disapointing aspect it's the ortographic errors and the mislabeled pictures.
