Rating: Summary: Buy this book, buy disappointment. Review: After all the other great reviews I was expecting something really good but its not.Its a tired rehash of previous versions of the same book for previous versions of Illustrator. The new stuff is stuffed in and the old stuff has been hastily altered because the publisher pulled the CD with the examples on. The whole thing doesn't work, there are better books out there. MJ
Rating: Summary: Exciting approach to drawing Review: Fantastic book. Well organized. I have used Illustrator for eight years, and this book taught me new and exciting things about this robust drawing software. Great resource for artistic suggestions and complex special effects. I use this new knowledge every day in my profession. Creating professional artwork with Illustrator is not as easy as it seems. This book gives you most tricks of the trade. Heartedly recommended. Hope to see other books by Mr. Alspach in the nearest future. Not necessarily about Illustrator, though he seems to have a great grasp of the software!
Rating: Summary: NOT for the beginner Review: I am about half way into this book and it's driving my crazy. Thank god that I already know Photoshop 'cause otherwise I'd be lost. The book is badly organized, making references to tools that aren't introduced until 200 pages later, it lacks illustrations and clear examples and I've found several errors so far. It is repetitive in some ways which makes it boring to read. There has to be a better book out there.
Rating: Summary: An answer to a daily prayer... Review: I am still learning and working in 9.0 and I use this book daily to really accelerate my learning curve. I have other books that show me pretty pictures for inspiration, but this book has worked very well for me.
Rating: Summary: A keeper Review: I found this book to be well-constructed and full of informative, helpful and practical examples for the novice and a great reference for the experienced. The book takes the user from a "WHAT IS a vector?" level to the more advanced "JUST GIVE ME THE MEAT" level. From the very minute I opened the book I was able to start drawing. I have created a set of basic drawings that has allowed me to win several new clients. My next step is to design an full color brochure that maximizes my illustration and design effectiveness. This will be a treasured and well-used book in my personal library for a very long time....
Rating: Summary: Excellent Projects, and thorough coverage Review: I have struggled with several different Illustrator-based projects in the past. Most books give weak examples and explain some of the more rudimentary elements of the proper use of Adobe Illustrator. Simply put: the projects in this book rock! More than anything else, it will give you a new look at creating illustrations in Adobe Illustrator. The author shows that Illustrator can do just about anything that you want it to! I bought this book for one reason: the author wrote an article a few years ago describing various unique techniques he's done (the article appeared in Adobe Magazine). This book is more of the same; a detailed and thorough look at Adobe Illustrator. Get this book and get started on your career as a professional designer!
Rating: Summary: An answer to a daily prayer... Review: I spent the last 3 weeks with this book working through it page by page, and agree with readers who both praised the book for its comprehensiveness and how its presentation was at times confusing. I would go so far as to say that some examples were downright frustrating by their lack of clear explanation. But this was the exception rather than the rule. If you're new to Illustrator (Photoshop experience will help), this book will take you to the point where you feel somewhat proficient if you work through the many examples.

Rating: Summary: Complete, thorough, and easy to read Review: I thought I knew all there was to know about Illustrator. Well, this book took me to the next level. A must have for everyone who uses Illustrator.
Rating: Summary: Great Reference Guide Review: I'm learning Illustrator now, and this book has made all the difference. Many people have told me that Illustrator was hard to use, but the author has a way of making me understand what all of the tools, menus, and palettes do, without being boring. Great writing style. So far, the Bible has been dead on in all aspects. Every time I need to find an answer, it tends to be in one of the well organized chapter. I wish all computer books were this useful.
