Summary: Paranoia Pays!
Review: The very way individuals and businesses transact business today has spawned a frightening and far too prevalent type of theft--identity theft. In his usual comprehensive fashion (475 pages!), Vacca delves into the fundamentals of identity theft, and explains how individuals and businesses can protect against it. Since the author's a long-time security expert, the section on future solutions and technologies is particularly invaluable--featuring as it does chapters on biometrics, digital signatures, and encryption. Thanks, John, for a valuable and timely treatment.

Review: This book begins with how identity theft occurs and progresses to methods of detection, finding the perpetrators and finally how to regain your identity. Vacca gives you a quiz to assess your vulnerability to identity theft. Then leads the reader through methods to protect both personal and client information from intrusion, damage or theft. The book is full of precautions such as why you should use only a gasoline credit card at the pump. Particularly helpful are extensive case studies of real life examples. Whether you are an individual, business owner, web operator or corporate employee, Identity Theft by John Vacca will educate you to America's fastest growing crime.

Summary: General Comment
Review: This book is one of the most interesting books that John Vacca has written. It deals with an alarming problem that most definitely requires everyone's attention. The use of Internet is becoming so widespread not only in the current business environment but also in everyone's private life. Having at least a couple of Email addresses by each individual is not out of the ordinary. This points to an increasing use of Internet as the tool for exchanging private information among individuals and organizations. Unfortunately this situation invites lots of attention from those who search and use confidential information in abusive ways. This type of abuse is being reported on a daily basis where confidential information such as social security numbers, credit card numbers, private medical information are extracted from the internet and other media with devastating effects on those whose confidential information is compromised. I find this book very informative and recommend it to not only organizations that store and handle confidential information but also to the general public.

Summary: A problem everyone should be aware of
Review: This book is quite timely and very thorough, going from defining the problem to providing solutions. Everyone should take note of the valuable information provided to avoid this growing problem. From a professional standpoint, I was particularly impressed with some of the technical solutions Mr. Vacca provided.

Summary: Terrific book. Highly recommended
Review: This book is right on the money. I personally experienced an identity theft to the tune of [$$$] on my credit card. Everything described in this book is consistent with my experience and information shared to me by the bank representative and the detective assigned to my case. I strongly recommend that anyone who conducts electronic commerce (who doesn't!)to read this book. This book clearly describes the many elements of personal risk and the controls one can demand and implement for security and peace of mind. Highly recommended.

Summary: Very Timely Book
Review: With current advanced technology across the world, crime is also changing in most countries and more sophisticated counter measures are required. John explores the main victim of crime, which is our own identities and it's vulnerability to theft. He gives a full account of how it is done and how to avoid it. Another great book by John.
