Summary: Not for Dreamweaver MX 2004
Review: I am finding this book helpful, except I am using Dreamweaver MX 2004 and this book is apparently for the previous version. Enough has changed that it is frustrating trying to figure out where things have moved to. I have to pull up the help screen to compare how the book says to do it with how you actually do it in the updated version. Use caution when using this book for the 2004 software. Otherwise, I personally like the pictures--being a visual learner.

Summary: It must of been family
Review: I don't know how anyone could rate this book highly. It was loaded with errors and unexplained situations. I can usually count on Amazon's reviews/ratings before I purchase an item, but this time I was really let down. I bought the book and it is far from perfect. It made me wonder if the previous raters were all family members. Oh well, don't buy....not unless you are into pictures only and not substance.

Summary: Really excellent format
Review: I really like this book a lot. I have other books on Dreamweaver and Flash but this is my favorite for both.
First it selects the essential tasks you have to do. For a small book it's incredible how often the procedure you need is right there.
Second, it picks a smart easy way to do each of the things. Other books have examples that are overly complex for no good reason.
Third, each procedure is profusely illustrated so it's hard to miss the point. One screen shot for every step. It even has circles around the button on the screen shots and a picture of a mouse with the word "click". In the middle of the night you really appreciate this kind of idiot-proof design format.
Finally, it's a really pretty book. After a wading through books with 1,000 pages of text, something this colorful is easy on the eyes.

Summary: Terrible book
Review: I've been using computer for over 6 years now and wanted to jump and create little bit nicer web site for my little company. I think i'm pretty experienced PC user.

This books has so many errors leading to nowhere , author using CSS styles without even explaining what CSS actually ..... I could go on but i think you get the idea....

HORRIBLE BOOK. Do not make same mistake i made and look elswhere for your Dreamweaver MX fix. ( Especially if you're new to Dreamweaver MX , and this book is suppoused to me FOR newbies , heh ) I cant imagine any experienced Dreamweaver MX user usinng this , and newbies will get lost by the time they get to CSS Class style.

Review: If you are new to Dreamweaver Mx and Fireworks Mx, this book will get you up and running quickly. Very nice step by step instructions on how to accomplish easy to complex tasks.

Summary: Ahhh...I see the tree!
Review: In many of the "how to" books on Fireworks and Dreamweaver I've read, there has been a tendency to pile on and sadly, even show off the author's knowlege rather than staying focused on the task at hand. This is all fine for veteran web masters(who probably don't need the books in the first place). But for the person who is new to the interface, it is best to keep things simple and focused. We don't need to see the details of the whole forest ecosystem when all we want is to build a little treehouse.

This is why I find Lon Coley's book so valuable. It stays focused on the concept and, I might add, gives some pretty good hints and tips. The large color illustrations are also a nice break from the monochromatic examples in most texts.

Most books claim they are designed for the "beginner to the advanced user", but they usually focus somewhere in between. They make too many assumptions about the Newbie's level of experience, and most really advanced techniques require their own books. This book is truly for the Newbie beginner and it fills a badly needed slot.

Summary: Could have been better by far!
Review: On the surface, this book looks good. It is one of the many visually oriented books for dreamweaver MX/Fireworks that deals with the issue of integrating the two. I got it because it was easier to wade through than some of the 1000 page books with no visuals.

The biggest disapointment however is that the author has done the projects that she tells you to do, but doesn't tell you that the projects don't work!

I wanted to create pull down menus or at least jump gates in dreamweaver. After killing myslef and creating pull down menus in fireworks that have to be exported into dreamweaver I found that there is a flaw in dreamweaver that she doesn't mention. Dreamweaver has it where anything added to a template that involves action, doesn't update to all the pages using the template.

In other words, after struggling for days, I found on the dreamweaver bulletin boards that if you do anything that is put into an already existing template, such as a navigation bar, pulldowns, etc. they will not be updated. So now everytime I make a change, I have to cut and paste this new pull down bar into every single page of the website and it is a pain.

She never mentioned this. I even found her email address in the book and emailed her. No response!

This book would have been better it if had actually mentioned this. Buy a book from on author who actually uses the software in everyday situations, not one who is a professional software writer and only uses the software once!

Summary: Explanations a little lacking
Review: This book is definitely geared towards beginners, but at the same time I found a lot of the explanations a little lacking. The book will walk you through steps but not explain "why" you're doing those steps. It seems to me the authors spent to much money on printing in color and not enough on writing a well thoughtout book.
