Rating: Summary: MCSE Training Kit -- Premium Edition Review: A definite "must have" when working for your certification. The information is to the point and easily understood. No one text will cover everything which could possibly be asked on the exam, but this comes close. I would recommend this kit to anyone wanting to achieve MCSE.
Rating: Summary: Nice price, not a lot of gut though.... Review: A few things surprised me when purchasing this book. 1. It's actually 2 books and several CD-Rom's. (70-215 Readiness Review book and Training Kit Book (943 pages) 2. In order to complete the excersies in the book, you must have 2 Windows 2000 Servers running. 1 you install using book disks the other installed unattended, then promote the #1 and so on.. later amounting to replicating both and setting up Dfs's, etc.. I only have 1 computer I could setup, so until I manage to get one, I'm screwed. BUT - for the price, it's a hella deal and excellent reference when reading braindumps.
Rating: Summary: Annoying mediocrity Review: A prior reviewer said "The kit is tailored made for the classroom". Actually the labs are poorly suited for classroom use - they're meant for study on one's own. (Based on my experience as one who teaches Windows 2000 in a classroom.) Overall the labs are pretty lame. Some are more thorough than others, but they rarely tell you WHY you are performing a certain step. And if you don't have an instructor who understands Active Directory, for example, good luck trying to understand why the labs on Account Policy on a standalone workstation are being done with the Group Policy snap-in rather than the Local Security Policy application. (Group? What group?) Superfluous material such as a few pages on site replication are more an advertisement for Microsoft and not enough to enable you to do anything useful. The chapter on DNS is useless. As for the order of lessons, why do they have you learn to edit the Registry in chapter 5 but not even create a user account until chapter 10? It would be very marginal to try to pass the 70-210 MCP test based just on the material in this book. For self-study, you'd do better with Alan Carter's or Mark Minasi's books.
Rating: Summary: I recommend this training kit Review: After reading the book and doing all the exercises I feel that I really know Windows 2000 Server. I also used many practice exams before taking the real exam. I passed the exam but it was the combination of this training kit and 3rd party practice exams that got me through, I suspect this training kit alone would not have been enough to pass the exam. Although the content of this kit is excellent, I only gave 4 stars because there were several subjects in the exam that this kit did not prepare me for. From previous experience with other Microsoft exams, I recommend Microsoft's own books when studying for these exams. Microsoft Press material is the most accurate and up-to-date.
Rating: Summary: the poor book of my life ! Review: Dont buy this book, it's only dedicated to sell more O.S. System from MS ! The content is inappropiate !
Rating: Summary: Excellent self-paced study. Review: I have to question the one star review above since it was written by one of those supposed I.T. trainers (if my job depended on people paying too much for classes I would slam this kit too). Excellent set of study tools for exam 70-210, covers the whole spectrum in a broad manner. The inclusion of the Resource Kits on the CD allow you to fill in any blanks. Used this kit and a little leg work on the web and passed this exam in one hour. Money well spent.
Rating: Summary: Get ready to pass the the exam. Review: I know what classroom training cost and I understand that shelling out money for a class that may or may not help is certainly something no one wants to do. I also understand that if Windows 2000 Professional is a certification goal than this training kit may be the place to start you journey. The book has over 90 lessons, from installing to the control panel, registry, protocols, DNS, active directory, configuration, administration, troubleshooting and remote access to help you in becoming the MCP you've always wanted. The lessons are in a step by step method and you learn at your own pace, thus allowing you to repeat lessons if you need to. There is also a readiness review book included to put the final touches on the learning process. The 3 cd-roms included are 1 for 120 day evaluation of Windows 2000 Professional, 2 is for the supplemental course materials and 3 is for the Sample Tech Net. The kit is tailored made for the classroom. Everything you'll need is included the only thing you have to provide is time and the effort. Excellent Job Microsoft.
Rating: Summary: Good kit from Microsoft Press Review: If one is planning a course of self-study to prepare for MCP exams, the Premium Edition books from Microsoft are a good set of training materials. The text comes in both hard copy and cd format, with some practice test materials and "Readiness Review" included. Don't rely on these kits alone, be sure to use some sort of practice test if you want to be really sure to pass.
Rating: Summary: Good Package Review: Study, practice, study, practice...that's the best way to success. This kit helps you to do both in one package. It is an excellent supplement to any formal training you may be taking.
Rating: Summary: Are You Still working with NT4, Need to Learn W2K ?! Review: The Interactive training for Windows 2000 Pro is a wonderful product to learn W2K and prepare for the test. The advantage it offers is that it cuts the time it takes to learn the material. You do not need to build a little network, you do not need to wait an hour or 2 each time to install the product to try the different installation options and adds many little things that make learning fun and easy. It's not a substitute for the real thing but you get very very close! I purchased three Books on 2000 Certification and Administration, big bulky books! I never had the chance or the time to read them and learn what's inside to be ready for the test, always too busy! But with this product, I got to Interact with the material and have my own private teacher (Whenever I need or feel like attending the Class, even at 2 O'clock in the morning with a Bag of Chips). I gave this book 4 Star, to be fair, once you finish and learn the material; it's good to use the other Bulky Big books to cover the Gaps. I found that I went through them in no time picking on what I may have missed and using TechNet when things are not clear. If you are still working with NT4 and never attended expensive courses, this is the best alternative to get ready for W2K.
