Rating: Summary: Not Bad But Not Perfect Review: Good points: 1)I liked the idea of drills so that you could put the ideas to work. 2)The exercises were useful and had you doing real world tasks. 3)The spiral binding (though cheesy looking) allowed the book to stay open while you were working on it. 4) Good looking exercises made you want to do well.Negatives? 1)The CD that came with the book didn't have all the images and set ups necessary to do the drills. Neither did the website, so you couldn't pick them up on line. 2) The book was pretty thin for the price. I would have wanted a lot more information for $40. With single spacing and regular computer-book sized text, this would have been a 50 page book. 3)They told you how to do things, but any tricky parts had to be discovered by you. I used the "notes" area of the book a lot (e.g. They say to push this button, but be sure you have that checkbox checked first). 4) Their graphic designer for the book had to be somebody's brother-in-law, not pretty. I would recommend this book, but there is some real room for improvement. I have the Peachpit Press InDesign Visual Quickstart Guide as a reference, but that is tough to teach yourself with.
Rating: Summary: Not Bad But Not Perfect Review: This is by far the best book I have seen on Adobe InDesign. It is clear, concise and explains the software and how to use it beautifully. The author is obviously intricately knowledgeable about InDesign and takes the reader/user step-by-step through this powerful software. I have used InDesign extensively, and found this book to be an invaluable reference source, as well as a learning tool. Even the most PC-challenged user should have no difficulty learning InDesign with this book!! I highly recommend Essentials of Adobe InDesign 2.
