Summary: Anyone considering outsourcing should read this book.
Review: Lacity and Hirschheim have rigorously and comprehensively looked at the issues of outsourcing information systems. They provide guidance to information systems managers about the real issues involved in this process in a number of ways: By presenting real and thorough case studies which give a 'blow by blow' description of the politics, the financial analysis, the technical issues and the commercial issues involved in such an exercise. Also they give practical guidance to managers about what to look for and what to look out for. I also recommend their follow up book which gives the insourcing response. This second book demonstrates their practical approach to these management issues and also shows that they are even handed in their treatment of this complex and often stressful decision making process.
