Rating: Summary: This Exchange book is definately NOT for dummies! Review: A very poor book for newbies to Exchange. The book assumes way to much pre-existing knowledge from it's reader. I found that the Sybex book by Richard Easlick & James Chellis to be a much more detailed and well laid out book for learning Exchange. I think this book would be good as a reference for Exchange admins or for test review after much study elsewhere. If you are looking for a book to learn and pass the MS test from, pass this one up.
Rating: Summary: Very practical Review: Any books that contain solid practical exercises are worth an investment. I've read Sybex book many times and become disenchanted by its lack of how-to-do-something. Reading theory does require some experiment in order for someone to really grasp the true meaning of the software.
Rating: Summary: Hi Scott. I was just wondering a few things. Review: Don't get me wrong, I'm not a bleeding-heart liberal, but in a review that Scott Rachui wrote, he said that liberals don't like conservatives because if conservatism wins, then liberals won't be able to have the elite positions that they have held onto. Now, in your profile, you said that you live in Allen, Texas, you enjoy scuba diving in the Caribbean, and you like visiting Paris and Stockholm. Unless I am mistaken, someone who can afford to go to the Caribbean to scuba dive and visit Paris and Stockholm is probably very rich. Coupled with the fact that you are a conservative in Texas (and don't contest me here, I live in Dallas) I think it's a safe bet to say you are a wealthy individual. I just couldn't tolerate the blatant hypocrisy that you are showing by calling liberals elite when you are a rich conservative. Also, a book you probably adhere to says that "It is easier for a camel to walk through the eye of a needle than for a rich man to get into heaven."
Rating: Summary: This book is indeed for dummies Review: I bought this book because I had absolutely no knowledge of Exchange 5.5 server, and I thought it would be useful to start from the basics - well, I didn't imagine this book would be directed to idiots. I had great troubles reading this book because it made me want to skip all the unnecessary stuff that didn't lead anywhere, and after reading it I felt I didn't learn anything of it as it seemed to explain only the selfexplanatory stuff. This is certainly the last time I ever buy a "* for Dummies" -book.
Rating: Summary: Find something else! Review: I have 3 years of field service experience, and have installed and maintained several Exchange servers. I thought this book would be sufficient for passing the exam, but I consulted other resources just to be sure. Thank goodness I did! This book will in no way prepare you for the questions you will get for the exam. I consulted an Exchange reference (non-MCSE) book from QUE, and it provided more material from the test than Dummies did. The sample questions provided by Dummies are pointless. They test you on the material in their book, but as I said before, their book doesn't cover the material on the test. I don't know if I should even mention the countless errors in the book and the unusual fact that there is yet no errata posted on the Web site. The guy from Austin who reviewed the book must be one of the author's relatives. A potential test taker is much better off investing in a book from Sybex or QUE.The only good I see in the book is that it is a good primer for messaging standards and Exchange. If you have no experience in electronic messaging, this might be a good book to start your studies with, but definately do not finish with it!
Rating: Summary: Very technical subject made easy! Review: I just finished reading 'MCSE Exchange Server 5.5 for Dummies' and was very impressed! As someone who works with the product globally, I can say that this is one of those books that will go on my bookshelf as one of my best resources. I was especially impressed by the troubleshooting section, which went way beyond every other book I've read so far. This book does have some typos, but I haven't found any book that doesn't. Also, the questions at the end of the chapters could be better. But, if you look at this book as a resource for how to use Exchange on a daily basis rather than a word-for-word guide for how to pass the MCSE exam, it's really an excellent book and a valuable resource for any mail administrator trying to get their hands around Microsoft Exchange Server 5.5. I only hope these guys come out with a book on Exchange 2000!
Rating: Summary: Just passed the MCSE Exam! This book is just what I needed! Review: I just finished reading MCSE Exchange Server 5.5 for Dummies. Of all books I have read on Exchange Server 5.5, I have found this the most readable book out there. And it contains quite a bit of critical information that helped me pass the MCSE exam on the first try! I agree that the end-of-chapter questions are not like the ones on the exam, but the material in the book is so great that you can still pass the exam easily with only this book to help you. I highly recommend it to anyone thinking of taking this difficult exam. I only hope these authors write a book on Exchange 2000 after it is released. Well done, guys!
Rating: Summary: This book is worth its weight in gold ! Review: I just finished studying for the NT Exchange Server 5.5 exam using this book and passed the test !!! The book is very easy to read and understand, and the authors have taken great pains to give you all the information you need to know to pass the test. They even tell you what you DONT need to know! A true lifesaver for me and I would reccommend this to anyone who would like to learn about Exchange Server 5.5 and pass the test. Good luck folks **smiles**
Rating: Summary: An excellent book from an incredible instructor! Review: I just finished taking one of Mr. Rachui's Exchange classes, and was blown away. He has an extraordinary knowledge of Exchange, and communicates it well through both his book and his classroom lectures. He is a full-time administrator with global enterprise experience, and his expertise definitely shows in this book. I highly recommend the book, as well as his class. Great job!
Rating: Summary: The standard for our company Review: I purchased this book as part of a technical library for our messaging admins. After reading it, it has become the standard reference tool for all of the administration and architectural work on our Exchange environment. I can only hope that these authors come out with new titles in the very near future.
