Rating: Summary: Good overview of Office 97 Review: I have used this book in two computer classes I have taken. I found it to be very useful in teaching me the basics of all the Office 97 programs but it was a bit simplistic at times. They showed you how to do things so many different times that it got tiring. Also, I found the section on Outlook to be very poor. This book was good and I did learn a lot from it but I think it could have been a lot better.
Rating: Summary: Down to Earth Language and Concepts Review: I took a class with this book as the instructional manual. I found it very easy to understand and follow. Language was basic and it really helped to improve my skills and my understanding of some of the concepts that seemed complicated to me before. This is a great at home/work resource book and I highly recommend it.
Rating: Summary: some benefits and disadvantages Review: My instructor is using this as the text for an 8-week college computer class. The large number of pictures aid reading & following instructions when a computer is not available (eg. some students reading at home.) It seems to be comprehensive as an introductory text in that Windows 95 & all applications of Office 97 are covered in one text. I have, however, encountered a few problems. 1) Pagination is something only the authors (if they) can understand. 2) Some directions get too detailed and belabor the point causing confusion over how many times one is to repeat a specified action. I have other references which explain some procedures more clearly and concisely, and are indexed in a more usable manner, however, the numerous photos in this text are a real plus.
Rating: Summary: A decent reference and learning tool for BEGINNERS... Review: Overall a good book for BEGINNERS. There are a LOT of pictures and graphics inside which reduce the 1000+ pages to only about 300 pages of actual information. If you already know anything at all about Office 97, you might want to get a slightly more advanced book. Perhaps one of the intermediate ones of the series. A few small symantic errors in a couple of the labs. However, overall, it is a great book for people new to Office 97.

Rating: Summary: Great teaching tool Review: Students at the high school level and in adult education courses did very well with this book. Its strongest feature is how it integrates various projects together. Its weakest is that we bought the paperback version -- it is really not sturdy enough to be used repeatedly with students without falling apart. I'd recommend getting a hard cover copy of the book.
Rating: Summary: This is a terrible book! Review: This is a terrible book! Unless you are _extremely_ slow at learning the inane detail is maddening.
Rating: Summary: Excellent for Introductory Students Review: This laboratory book is excellent for introductory students. Re the review that thought it was for extremely slow learners, I disagree. It IS tedious for those who know the ropes, but for introductory students, who spend a lot of time "lost", this is just the book for them. William A. Bradnan, Hilton Head Island SC

Rating: Summary: This is a terrible book! Review: This text was used in connection with a computer applications class I took in Spring 1998. It strongest feature involves the integration of applications available under MS Office 97 - Word, Excel, Access, Powerpoint, and Outlook. In other words, one learns how to be more productive by making these tools work together. Good graphics and format. Easy to understand and apply.
