Rating: Summary: What's new with the third edition? Review: What's in the third edition of The Internet Kids & Family Yellow Pages? There is something for everyone! I get mail from all sorts of people who have been delighted with previous editions. Families from homeschools, librarians, teachers, businesspeople, and even college librarians have bought my book. Please look for samples on my Web site, Amazon does not allow URLs in comments but perhaps you can deduce what my domain name is since I am the one and only NetMom! You won't be disappointed in the authoritative coverage, the consideration for the reader, and the fun you'll find in my book. The book's a labor of love for us, and we are happy it seems to have fulfilled a need for so many readers worldwide. But here's what you'll find: --More than 3,500 fully-annotated educational and entertaining Internet sites, all hand-picked and family-friendly. Sites are arranged in broad subject headings, organized alphabetically. The main A-Z section is written for kids in K-8, although many general reference works for all ages are included. The sites in the parenting and teaching section were selected for adults. Resources for preschoolers are also included. --Almost 300 "Net-File" trivia questions to encourage interest in Net exploration. --Free Online Updates at my Web site. We track changes to the addresses in this book and post them online to help our readers stay up-to-date. We also offer a free e-mail newsletter. --A Family Internet Safety Toolkit and Tutorials on the book's CD-ROM The CD-ROM contains a clickable version of all the site addresses, plus Internet tutorial demos, children's Net safety comics, and special filtering software demos and offers for families. --A special "Parenting and Families" section on using and enjoying the Internet as a family experience. Includes an excerpt from a new book on how to keep kids safe online--written by Donna Rice Hughes, a nationally recognized advocate for children's safety on the Internet. --In "W" there is a new section called WHY? In that area you'll find Internet sites where kids (and parents) can go to find out such things as Why is the sky blue? Why is the sunset red? Why do the leaves change color in the fall? What makes a cat's eyes glow in the dark? Why is the ocean salty? Where does the water go during low tide? How many stars are in the sky? What color is snow? --A newly-updated hotlist section featuring the ten "Best of the Net" sites in categories like homework help, sports, science, plus sites for preschoolers, parents, teachers, & more! This year Son of Net-mom makes his debut with a collection of sure-fire sites kids love (including some their parents might consider yucky, such as the ever-popular Belch Page). :-) --The other 11 hotlists represent major topics, like Science, and Sports. Sites appearing on Net-mom's hotlists should be considered the "Best of the Book" in those categories. On each hotlist we include only ten sites. Sometimes we had too many great sites, though, and we wanted to showcase them in another special way. So this year we have a new 50 Don't-Miss These Best of the Rest list. Trust Net-mom, if you visit any of these resources, you'll be impressed. They are too good to miss. Thanks for giving me the opportunity to tell you about my book.
