Rating: Summary: Unfocussed Review: A case oriented approach will be more effective.
Rating: Summary: The Reference for Photoshop 5 Review: As a new user of Photoshop 5, I can highly recommend this book as a must have. MacWorld Photoshop 5 Bible introduces the reader to fundamental concepts that are the foundation of understanding digital graphics. The MacWorld Photoshop 5 Bible covers every aspect of Photoshop 5 in detail, many of which are not covered in the Adobe users manual. I highly recommend MacWorld Photoshop 5 Bible to everyone who wants to take advantage of all Photoshop has to offer, especially the novice or newcomer to the field.
Rating: Summary: excellent, well written in an easy to read style Review: Before I read this book I had never used photoshop or any other photo program. This book was well written, easy to follow, and explained everything a beginner or intermediate user of the program would need to know. I was very quickly able to get up running. It may be over 700 pages, but it is fast and fun reading. Highly recommended.
Rating: Summary: Rehash Review: essentially a rehash of his other previous books, and not a useful tutorial because it doesnt combine photoshop options to do a single complete project which is disappointing for a book this expensive. it is to basic for advanced users also. is everyone else on drugs here or am i the only one not being paid to write reviews? shame on you guys.
Rating: Summary: excellent! Review: Great book! Told alot of what was new, what got changed, and how to use them. Sits next to my keyboard for reference now as class is out but I never stop learning.
Rating: Summary: Author response Review: I don't normally respond to the reader reviews; I think they should be allowed to stand on their own. But I feel compelled to address the one titled "Rehash" below. As with all my Photoshop Bibles over the years, I rewrote the Macworld Photoshop 5 Bible, replacing more than half the images and roughly 70% of the text. Four chapters (6, 10, 14, and Appendix A) are either new or bear no resemblance to previous incarnations. With this in mind, I don't quite understand how the term "rehash" applies. The rest of the review is fine, I suppose. True, the book is not a tutorial, but nor does it claim to be. I believe the term "Bible" implies an authoritative reference, and that's what this Bible is intended to be. I can't comment on whether the info is too basic (though I've never heard that one before) or whether everyone else is on drugs (just say no, kids). But the rehash thing -- well, I've stated my case on that. Anyway, probably should have let it go. The "rehash" review is six months old, after all. But couldn't help myself. Thanks for indulging me. --Deke PS: I entered a five-star rating because that's the mean for this title. I would have prefered to forego a rating, but the system wouldn't let me.

Rating: Summary: I can't wait to see... Review: I have not read this version yet, but if it is a rehash of The Photoshop Three Bible by Deke, it would definitely be worth it. Deke's book, though I could not understand the most advanced aspects (such as Apply Image and Calculations), inspired a love for this program almost as intense as the love portrayed in Zappa's Joe Garage. After reading and learning the book, I ran out and replaced my ornery old LCIII with a three grand system and am in heaven. However now I have ver. 5 and need a new book to cover all the new toys. I'm seriously considering this one based on the strengths of the one I read. I thank Deke for his wisdom and hope to one day master this program.... REALLY.
Rating: Summary: I LOVE THIS BOOK! Review: I never thought I'd be reading a software reference like a novel, but I'm halfway through and enjoying every minute. I use PhotoShop every day, but I'm learning so much I never knew--I now realize what a small piece of PhotoShop's vast capabilities I was using. I can't thank Deke McClelland enough for writing this book, a humorous, informative, common-sense reference guide to PhotoShop.
Rating: Summary: The best software book I've read (and I've read many!) Review: I teach computer graphics, and am constantly in search of good software guides. Most are simply warmed-over manuals, or "recipe books" that are no help in building a basic understanding of a given software package. This book breaks down every aspect of Photoshop, and explains the full function and possible applications of nearly every aspect of this powerful software. Deke's book is simply the best of it's type I've ever read. Some of my students don't care for his sense of humor (which seems to be more evident with every new edition, for better or worse), but most find that it helps break the tedium of the technology. I agree with the latter. An earlier edition of this book was instrumental in my professional career, and I simply can't recommend it enough.
