Rating: Summary: Excellent Guide -- Packed with Practical Detail Review: This is an excellent guide to the field of digital nature photography. There is enough detail to help you sort out the practical details of making digital work: workflow, using the histogram, file types, color management, using Photoshop, and so on. Some of these topics, especially Photoshop, have entire lengthy books of their own, but the author provides enough detail to give pointers on useful techniques and how to use them without getting too bogged down in detail -- and also provides a brief selection of resources for further information.
Another nice touch is the inclusion of ancedotes such as shooting out on safari with Art Wolfe.
Good glossary, too.
This book does a very good job of presenting the digital world to folks who are already at least somewhat familiar with the basics of nature photography. And it gives enough detail to be helpful to those already shooting digital.
(Although there is coverage of general topics such as depth of field, quality of light, composition, and so on, if you are brand new to nature photography you might want to read John Shaw's Field Guide to Nature Photography as well.)
