Rating: Summary: inspirational Review: ignore anyone who said the people in this book are not masters...people like jens karlsson, mike cina, and derek lea produce some beautifully inspiring art in photoshop and this book is a great guide for anyone seeking a profession or hobby involving the best use of photoshop possible. it is not meant to teach you photoshop, rather, to boost those who know photoshop to push its limits and expand their talents. amazing book, totally worth the money. i spent $[money] on it at borders and dont regret spending that much at all. go out and get this.
Rating: Summary: It's more than just a showcase for Photoshop artists... Review: In-depth interviews with several Photoshop artists, well-planned tutorials and graphical screen grabs, and source-packed CD-ROM are just but a few of the features this great book offers. I have just scratched the surface, and I am very pleased with purchasing this book. The artists share what and who influence their work in detail, and share their views on how they bring their own voice to their work. I buy many books on Photoshop, and this has to be one of the most useful and inspiring books on Photoshop. Worth every cent.
Rating: Summary: great Review: There is really not much to add to the positive comments already posted. This book really is extremely useful. Whatever level you are you can find some inspiration here. There is an assumption you have an intermediate-level knowledge of the app, but that's ok, cos even if you dont you can just pick up your manual/power PS up and work it out. The key to this book is its insight into the processes of seasoned, acclaimed, professionals. If you aint any of those right now, or even if you are, you will benefit from this book.NB - I'd drop it a half-point as the CD is pretty useless. But that would be unfair - think of the CD as a candy accompanyment. The book is worth its weight alone.
Rating: Summary: Very Disappointing Review: This book is great and will give you inspiration for new ideas.
Rating: Summary: Great great book! Review: This book is not a step by step tutorial of Photoshop. It requires basic knowledge of the program and is aimed at people who work with Photoshop regularly and would like to learn how different designers produce and enhance their works in Photoshop. Design inspirations may come from many different sources, including fine arts, photography, drawing, other grafix packages, you name it. This book teaches you about that inspiration and how to take your work to a next level, using Photoshop as the medium. Photoshop is an image manipulation program. It is where and how you find your inspirations and initial material for designs that will determine how efficient you'll be using the program.
Rating: Summary: Overall good book for advancing techniques. Review: This book is very helpful to people who know something about Photoshop already. What makes it different is that you are designing through the eyes of a usually good designer and learning step by step how to acheive interesting results by recreating their own works. Each designer is different so you learn to attack the same type of problems from different angles. Some of the designers ramble on in their introductions, but once you get past that it's smooth sailing. This is not your usual tutorial book so try to do 2 to 3 exercises per week. I leaned alot about Photoshop from this book and I use it as a reference for techniques quite often.
Rating: Summary: BS Review: This is one of the best books available for PhotoShop users. Not only is it full of inspiration, you can actually read it ! I hope this style is a beginning and I can't wait for the next volume ! I have a collection of Photoshop, design and photography books, I have to say this is one of the few I keep on my desk.
