Summary: Great bood for beginners
Review: I can't believe some of the previous reviews. One person giving it 3 stars and he hasn't even used it. Another thinking that this CD package prepares you for the A+ exam when it's really for the COMPtia Network+ exam.

Listen folks, if you have basic computer skills and you want to dabble in the world of networking, then this is your product. This interactive CD will take you step-by-step at all the fundamental principles of basic networking via narrarator. It totally works at your pace with assestment test before you start a module and a quiz at the end. It tells you what areas that requires more attention.

I do agree that you're not going to get stunning state-of-the-art multimedia but for the price... it delivers. If you don't understand something, you can go back and have it repeated to you. I was A+ certified before studying for the Network+ exam. I used some resources online in addition to this Sybex e-trainer and passed the exam.

Again, it's for folks who have good knoledge of personal computers and want to learn about basic networking principles.

Summary: Good tool to prepare for the exam
Review: I used this program after I finished studying for the exam using the Network+ Exam Prep guide. I like the way the testing engine will allow you to access content for questions you answered incorrectly - it was a really helpful way to fill in information I had just glanced over while studying. I'm not sure I could sit through the whole thing and use it as my main study guide, plus I found a couple errors. All in all, though, a good tool.

One note - this program also runs on a Macintosh - flawlessly, even though the packaging doesn't say so.

Summary: Good tool to prepare for the exam
Review: I want to be brief and yet provide a caution regarding the installation of this product. I think that the content is very good. I agree with the other writers that this should not be relied upon as the only resource, but I have found it to be concise, interesting and helpful. My whole point in submitting this review however is to hopefully help others from experiencing the same frustrations while trying to use it that I initially encountered. After installation I found that I had about an 80% chance of the system hanging when I tried to run the NetPlus program. Also had hangs with the Adaptive Tracking feature when I used it during those times when I was able to open the application. I finally tried disabling my Norton 2000 AntiVirus Auto-Protect feature and paused the Task Manager of my Windows98 SE operating system during an attempt to reinstall the software. This worked like a charm and I am now happily taking advantage of a good resouce. Good luck with your studies and preperation.

Summary: this got me a 740 on the exam Network + certified
Review: The cd is great! The explanations are excelent it goes into detail about the topologies and it had a good way of simplfing
the osi model the only draw back is the questions there not senerio based like the exam is and that takes away from the cd and also there should be more example how each topologies work best in what enviroment will they work best in what enviroment but a really good complement to this cd is the network + readiness review isbn 0-7356-1457-1 this cd and the readiness review is the only thing I used to pass the network +(first certification) now im studying for a+ and will be the etrainer also to review for the exam

Rating: 4 stars
Summary: Good but far from perfect.
Review: This is for the CompTIA Network+ exam not the A+. The quickest way for me to pick up something is to *see* it demonstrated which is what I like about this product. The contents cover the topics in a clear, understandable fashion.
