Rating: Summary: Way to many editing and coding errors. Review: As a very skilled web page designer and beginning java programmer wanting to learn JSP, the coding errors in the text of this book made it nothing but frustrating. The author makes huge assumptions about the readers skill level, or the "intermediate" rating from Que is way off. That on top of the very frustrating editing errors in the sample code makes this book a burden and a waist of time for any non-java expert. If you like a challenge to make you learn a subject, then searching through the java doc finding the stupid capitalization errors in the sample code in this book is for you.
Rating: Summary: Nice idea. Poor implementation. Review: I agree with Dan Green. The author has a hard enough job putting his work together, let alone fixing every typo. That's the publishers job. As far as I am concerned Maneesh Sahu has been let down by would-be vanity publisher QUE. There are typos galore and just too many code errors. It's as if QUE printed the wrong draft. I am just glad I am an experienced enough developer to see around the bugs. This work has the potential to rank amongst the better jsp books. Buy it if you have some programming skills, but still expect problems. Else get Web Development with Java Server Pages by Duane K. Fields and Mark A. Kolb. To quote Dan Green, "QUE get it together"...
Rating: Summary: Good One ! Just buy it ! No second thoughts !!!! Review: I always thought of doing something in JSP as I had very basic knowledge of Servlets and JSP. Without knowing what to do, I came to amazon.com and found this book. Inspite of negative reviews, thought of trying it and bought it. Only after buying it, I came to know that users who have no idea or very little idea about JSP might have given the negative reviews. If u ask me, I have given all 5 stars to this book. If u know a little bit about JSP and want to do a Beginner project in it, go for this Book !!!! You might have small problems here and there with the code, you can always email me if u have any doubt at amith_pj@yahoo.com
Rating: Summary: Well-written and comprehensive! Review: I found this book to be very comprehensive and covering a wide range of topics and actually displaying many aspects of what one can do with java server pages. The chapters deal with usage of jsp as a scripting language, imbibing usage of Java programming language, javascript and Java Beans too. The author has done a very good job of kind of networking the recent technologies ...javabeans ,sending email using javabeans through a JSP and also actually developing an auction site using JSPs.The approach is very gradual and easy to understand without jumping into too much of technological jargon. I liked the way the book has dealt into explaining the JSPs ,the initial chapters which would be helpful to even a non-web-programming savvy person, as the basics of web programming,HTML, have also been explained. An experienced web programmer could skip the first chapter. Finally,a great job in introducing the 'hot' technology of wireless/mobile commerce and integrating the JSP with it. Good book for pouring into the world of JSP....well -written!
Rating: Summary: Great idea for book - but got lost in inconsistencies Review: I have been programming server side code for about 3 years. When my firm got a jsp project I immediately went browsing the local bookstore for some jsp books feeling confident that I could put my Java skills to work. This book immediately caught my eye. It seemed to have everything I was looking for. While working through the first couple of chapters, I was utterly confused. The author tells you to name a page one name, but refers to the same page with a completely different name for its examples. this happens several times throughout the book. By trial and error I eventually got some of the code to work but with way too much effort. This is not a simple walkthrough like the books title dictates. There are too many leaps from example to example and too many holes to fill. Most of my time was spent figuring out how to piece the several bits of code together to make the examples work. I am sure this is not the author's fault, but the publisher's rather. It's a shame, because this could have been a winner instead of the jumbling mess that it is. Also Que offers no errata to help out and the source code is just as confusing as the book! If you wanna learn jsp quick, definately check out Wrox's Beginning JSP Web Development, or Forta's JSP book, and "scratch" this one of your list. Shame on you Que.
Rating: Summary: Errors Not an oversite Review: I have many of the "from scratch" books. Every one of them has so called errors in syntax (smirk). I have concluded that they were placed there on purpose. First, the errors are consistant in there placement and repetition. Second, the actual valid 'sintax' or values are explained preceding the supposed error. Third, the author guarantees that the student is paying attention (i.e. Thinking!) and not rotely typing in code he/she has no concept of. Great book for learning! But obviously, some people don't get the joke.
Rating: Summary: despite the other reviews Review: I read all the negative reviews and still bought the book. And as a student of JSP, I'm glad I did because I found it conceptually good and well written. And more importantly, easy to understand. It has definately given me a greater knowledge base of JSP.

Rating: Summary: A book for those who love code errors Review: Most of the negative reviewers are right about this book. Don't see how you can rate this book very high unless you really don't need to read it in the first place. There are a lot of code errors. The author seems to be making assumptions that you already know enough to make getting through this disaster a breeze.
Rating: Summary: The truth is in here Review: No kidding dudes....this book is cool. It's got the whole shebang of JSP basics. With this book you'll learn it in a breeze. Cheers to the earthling who wrote it.
